Hi Andrew,Once installed, get SP1 here: http://www.fsinsider.com/downloads/Pages/F...rvicePack1.aspxAnd SP2 here: http://www.fsinsider.com/downloads/Pages/F...-SP2Update.aspxLook over the forum for varying tweaks and their related issues many experience. If you can run SP2, you'll get better performance as many of the problems have been addressed by ACES. It's a never-ending struggle :-) Regards,Jim Karn

As you'll see if you read the forums, FSX +SP2 runs about as well as it can, right "out of the box".No silver bullet fsx.cfg tweaks that have proven themselves.Just go easy on the traffic and water settings if you want good performance.

FSX is not FS9 and the config file does not provide any magic bullets like the FS9 file didMy recomendation is to install FSX, 1. Install RTM from the DVD, fire up the sim and let it complete the install and boot the default flight.2. Close the simIf you have the Deluxe version and want the SDK installed, install it off the DVD now.3. Reboot the computer4a. (Acceleration Users only)Install Acceleration which will install SP1 and SP2 automatically. Boot the sim and allow it to complete the install and boot the default flight. Close thwe sim and reboot the computer. If you want the Acceleration SDK install it from the disk.4b. (SP1-SP2 Users who do not use Acceleration)Install SP1. Boot the sim and allow it to complete the install and boot the default flight. Close the sim and reboot the computer. If you want the SDK install the SDK SP1a. Install SP2. Boot the sim and allow it to complete the install and boot the default flight. Close the sim and reboot the computerIf you want the SP2 SDK, install it nowhttp://download.microsoft.com/download/3/C...9F9F633/sdk.msiNOTE: If you wish to have the SDK installed which targets BOTH Acceleration and SP2, you must uninstall the Acceleration SDK, leaving SP1a in the system and then install the SP2 SDK posted above.Make sure you have the latest DirectX UPDATES installed.http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=enMake sure you have the C++ library update installed.http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en5. Install your addons one at a time, reboot in between large add-on installs and make sure you have the updates for them.6. Start the sim, set up the sliders/checkboxes. This is where most go very wrong. You will need to experiment with settings based on your hardware.DO NOT MIGRATE an older FSX.cfg file when updating to Acceleration, SP1 or SP2!Use it to copy/paste edits but do not overwrite the new file. The best tweaks are now all in Windows setup and the correct use of O&O Defrag! Defragging is critical make sure the disk is clean before FSX use. Here is a list of the ONLY areas one may wish to work with in the SP2 FSX.cfg for tweaking.{Display}UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=? You will need to experiment with your FPS setting. 20, 24, 30 or UNLIMITED tend to be best{Display}WideViewAspect=True (FALSE if you do not have a wide screen monitor){Display}RUNWAY_LIGHTS_SURFACE_SCALAR=1.2RUNWAY_LIGHTS_VASI_SCALAR=1.2RUNWAY_LIGHTS_APPROACH_SCALAR=1.2RUNWAY_LIGHTS_STROBE_SCALAR=1.0Optional.. I use the above for my FSX lightfix and it does help with airport light scales.{JOBSCHEDULER}AffinityMask=xx 80keep in mind FSX is not FS9. Although the max Texture Bandwidth Multiplier can go to 400 like FS9, to do so is suicide in FSX. I would say most should be somewhere around 30-80 MAX.{TERRAIN}TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=xxxTERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=xxxxDefault is 4500 trees and 3000 buildings... it can be raised to max of 6000/6000 or reduced as desired.I do not use these lines at all anymore and just leave them out.{BUFFERPOOLS}Poolsize=8000000 :)Proper driver upgrades are important! Make sure you have the latest for your card. For Nvidia cards proper setup of the drivers with Nhancer is a must! Setup and use of Nhancer in 2 posts here: http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/Ya...3028653/165#171Why? because if you don't, Nvidia driver profiles REMOVE your ability to change driver settings and FSX settings so no matter what you set in the drivers or FSX, Nvidia OVERRRIDES them and FORCES your card to run the way they want it to run. As soon as you boot FSX or FS9, or any other game in the list, the Nvidia drivers override the settings you made and change them without you knowing. Most important.. dont forget to got to Windows UPDATE and get ALL the critical updates it offers... there are several that will help with FSX. Also, stay tuned to Phil Taylor's Blog where you can find the answer to many questions about fixes, updates and other FSX bitshttp://blogs.msdn.com/ptaylor/Good Luck!
