#$%^%^&^!!! Kayakers mission ARGH

Recommended Posts

That stupid EH101 sling/hoist is the biggest pain in the you know what to operate. I was flying the FL Keys Kayak mission, and I spent like 20 min trying to get EXACTLY into position....jeeeese you gotta be within an inch I swear. Annoying... then, of all things, I pick them both up, and my fricken engines quit, and SPLASH!! *mission fricken failed*!!!ARGGHHH!!!! What the heck am I doing wrong??? Why is the hoist/sling so sensitive?

Check your fuel tank? This mission is one of my favorites, primarily because it takes skill to complete.

skill....lolSo, once you get the past the bugs, you can attempt to lift them into your helo.I hover right over the little guys, so my hoist rope is over them, and at the correct altitude (so the rope touching the guys), and it still doesn't pick up. (and yes the slingload is enabled)The target boxes seem like you gotta be perfect. I can hover the chopper, the pickups are just too annoying.I didnt check my fuel, but I sure could have run outa it lol!

" ... once you get the past the bugs ..."I'm not sure there are "bugs" in this mission. The requirements for this mission are exceedingly precise, much more so, I think, than the Slingload Tutorial mission. You must be in a hover over the victims. By that, I mean, you must be hovering. Not sorta hovering, not kinda hovering, but actual hovering. If you are moving, then you aren't hovering. Depending on the height at which you attempt the rescue, you might THINK you are hovering, but if you're unable to attach the victims, then you aren't hovering. You're moving, and the simulator is monitoring you move and not letting you attach.Once you are hovering (i.e., not moving) you must maintain that hover for a set amount of time (not sure exactly what that amount is, but it is probably for several seconds, at least). If you start moving, then of course, you're not hovering any more, and tough luck ... you just ran out of gas and crashed.Believe it or not, there are many times when conditions prohibit the rescue of people from helicopters with hoists. It happens all the time. This mission is probably "As Real As It Gets."So, I'd suggest honing your skills ... which is precisely what this mission gives you the opportunity to do.Cheers,Kevin(BTW: My achilles heel has been the Avalanche mission. The ground effect just really makes it very difficult for me to get over the guy long enough to get a hook on him. I finally got it, flew all the way to the hospital, and then just barely touched my rear end on the hospital helipad and crashed. ARGHEHHHGHGHGL)(#&$%(#*(&So, I feel yur pain. ;)(PSS: Just reflew this mission ... works pretty good if you can get into a good hover. I fly this with Water at 2x low to make sure I'm getting good frame rates. Proud owner:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/184378.jpg

Kevin's right: The EH-101 is one tricky beast to hover and control for these missions. I finally did the Avalanche mission to success, but only after a save close to the hospital and numerous crashes on that ridiculously dinky H pad on the roof. Whew! Good thing I don't do this for a living. Or, for that matter, have other lives in the balance. :(
