November 18, 20241 yr Hmm, a lot cheaper on CD keys than on Steam here in South Africa. I wonder if the prices will hold. Intel Core i5-12600k, Nvidia RTX 4070 Super, 128 Gigs.

Below is a screen capture from his video. First and foremost, at 53 seconds into the video he clearly states that he has removed 2020 to make room for 2024. So he is not installing 2024 into a different location than 2020. He has removed 2020. Note that changing the Game Install Options in xBox is not just changing the location for an MSFS2024 installation. It is changing "where this app installs games by default". See the screen capture. I chose a different location for MSFS2020 and when the pre-install was done it was in that folder. Now here is the issue I discovered. My original MSFS2020 folder no longer exists. Period. I find my MSFS 2020 installation is now also in the new MSFS2024 folder. What appears to happen is that my MSFS2020 folder gets renamed in the process from MSFS2020 to MSFS2024. MSFS2020 gets redirected, and the MSFS 2024 pre-install is also placed in that folder. So it seems xbox will only change an install location by changing the default installation folder for all games. I cannot determine a method to install MSFS 2024 into its own folder without redirecting my MSFS2020 into the same folder. That keeps your community folder and MSFS main files where ever you want. The folder with the executable is really not relevant since it’s both pretty small and you never need to touch files in it - maybe once in a long while to update exe.xml or something. but this way you want keep your big files on a separate drive and distinct from the games library folder. 9800X3d, 4090, 64 GB DDR5 6000 RAM, 4 TB NVME (2x2), 4K Ultra + Framegen

I did same process as you from what I can see but 2020 wasn’t moved. But since it moved yours and you want to keep it I would go back and specify the original 2020 location, and then if given the option specify a different folder for 2024 when it installs. Make that folder before you install so that you can choose it. It is a screwed up process. When I installed 2020 I was allowed to specify a drive but not a folder, it had to be in “xboxgames” folder. I don’t know why they have to make it so complicated. I have now just uninstalled 2020. It left behind the official folder with something like 80gb of files and I deleted that. It also kept the community folder which I moved using addonlinker. Edited November 18, 20241 yr by desbean Edited

Do you select the main files destination during the release-day installation process? Yes, once the game launches it will want to download some more files (nowhere near as much as 2020, though). This is also where you can select the folder it puts the files in, and this is also where the community folder lives. If you dont' change the default, it will put everything in the C:\XboxGames\MSFS2024 folder. From your screenshot, you are changing the default for ALL games you install via the Store. MSFS will be installed one level down in this folder, so the parent name should be something like XboxGames or Games or whatever - it's not the name of the individual game. Finally, it is possible to have multiple \XboxGames folders if you have more than one drive in the system. I have C:\XboxGames and D:\XboxGames, and when I install a new game, I can choose to put it in either of the two drives. 9800X3d, 4090, 64 GB DDR5 6000 RAM, 4 TB NVME (2x2), 4K Ultra + Framegen
