November 18, 20241 yr I remember a video being around on youtube of pre-Fenix Aamir having the most epic reaction to the MSFS E3 2019 trailer 😀, can't seem to find it now though. This is a fun compilation of some reactions below. Actually Aamir comes in at the very end hehe... so cool how this was the starting point to Fenix coming into being and then going on to become a gold standard sim aircraft dev (the best in the business IMO) which MSFS is so lucky to have. November 18, 20241 yr I was gobsmacked. But then I went on the avsim forum, saw a lot of "this is not game footage", "it will be a dumbed down product", "bait-and-switch on the horizon", "MS is just there to take our money", etc. and got depressed 😆 I'm happy to report that my initial reaction of utter shock was the correct one!

November 18, 20241 yr My memory.... WOW....Microsoft is going to make a lot of money putting this game on Xbox!
November 19, 20241 yr Unlike many. I was not a simmer at the time, though I had my PPL and about 400 hours in my Cessna 140. When I saw the trailer for 2020, I thought simming might just be worth a try. So I bought FSX, played a few months, then became a late 2020 beta tester. Been hooked since.
November 19, 20241 yr I was at RAF Cosford with Squirrel and co and there was a rumour going around. Just one tiny screen playing it. It really stole the show, although we were also quite focused on Deadstick.
November 19, 20241 yr Well here's the very first thread on this subforum of people initially reacting to the trailer, if anyone is interested:
November 19, 20241 yr It's just like how everyone remembers where they were when John F Kennedy was stabbed.

I was in disbelief like this guy. The leap in graphics for a civilian flight simulator was just shocking to me. This trailer really put into focus how much the top civillian flight simulators back in 2019 were lagging in technology. And I remember that when I finally downloaded and had my first flight in MSFS 2020, I was blown away. I finally understood then, what flight simulation could be like if it utilized the technology available in 2020. It's been a glorious 4 years with MSFS 2020. I hope the MSFS 2024 brings me the same joy for the next several years (until MSFS 2028 comes out 🤣). I expect some bumps and turbulence with MSFS 2024 in the first few months, just like there was with MSFS 2020. But sometimes when you look back, you got to laugh. Remember in the fall of 2020 when certain peripherals that were plugged in caused a CTD on the loading/menu screen of MSFS 2020? Haha, those were good times! That perhipheral CTD bug was one of the reasons why the MSFS team decided to do a beta test before each Sim Update, first a closed beta test, and then transitioned to an open beta test. I honestly expect the same with MSFS 2024, it will be rough in the first few months. But I think after a few months, when the MSFS team is able to do a few patches, and 3rd party developers are able to get their add-ons working smoothly for MSFS 2024, we are going to be taken for another ride. And one day, when MSFS 2024 approaches the end of its lifecycle (because ahem, MSFS 2028 or whatever comes out), we'll look back with fond memories of what a great flight simulator MSFS 2024 was! The trailer was great, and I had a lot of fun talking about it here on Avsim. The release, much later, was pretty rough and didn’t really live up to the hype of the trailer. There were a glorious few weeks from the 30h April 2022 when we finally got some decent payware airliners (Maddog, Fenix, etc) and we’ve never looked back since. Team Asobo has done an amazing job getting the sim to where it is now. November 19, 20241 yr At that time I was completely away from flight sim as I was intensely playing EVe Online. My last memories of flight sim were on P3D 4.0 Then one day, I was surfing the internet and found this trailer and I was stunned. Couldn't believe my eyes and couldn"t believe the giants steps compared to my first flight simulator on Atari XL. Fortunately at that time, the release was maybe one month away so I had not to wait a long time to enjoy it. Since that, I'm hooked again to msfs and left Eve Online. That was 4 years ago already. Can't wait to try msfs2024
