But I get all the moaning about the controller set up. That really is a learning curve.

Stick with it. 2 days in, I prefer this to 2020 by far. Once it makes sense you see why it's so much better to do controls this way. They can likely make it better/easier, but it has some really good ideas that weren't in 2020 (per plane controls!)

If only they would publish a manual like they should have for ms2020. Like before, we are all learning from posts here, on the go. It would save so much confusion.

Even a short manual on the control/assignments would be very helpful.

No technical issues for me in the last two days! Sim loads fast, no crashes, good performance!

Given that the aircrafts are "streamed in" to the msfs 2024 client is the flight model configuration files accessable, (eg Flight model .cfg) for tweaking? These were available locally in the aircraft folder with 2020.

No they are not. Also every aircraft even defaults in standard edition are encrypted now. In the devs forum there were multiple complaints that without being able to read these files they could not learn how the new systems worked and adapt their planes from 2020 to conform.

Maybe just early days. A sim which noone can tweak, even 3rd party experts, is gonna have a short shelf life imo.

Controller configs are very confusing.  Sensitivity settings are so different and my Microsoft FF2 seems limp and uncontrollable.  I cannot figure out how to make my Hat switch work to PAN around my cockpit and outside.  Learning curve will take time, I'm sure.

All solved now.  MSFS 2024 is working great on my system.  Used it for hours today more than I did yesterday. Planes and helicopters are all set up perfectly. Used Youtube and other sites to learn how to set up my joystick because it's a little different from MSFS 2020.  Flying for more hours today than yesterday and the sim loads up in 3 minutes or so.

Just finished my first full flight; lots of improvements in the core engine (e.g. lighting, handling, etc.)! Unfortunately, we'll definitely need updates.

Here I am departing KATL:

Loading times are much better now, but in-game the situation is still poor. I am currently using a 30Mb/s connection, which has worked perfectly fine in 2020 for years. So, either the servers are still struggling to deliver, or my connection speed will not suffice for the increased network load.

Since Wednesday morning I've been playing for many hours per day without any issues. I'm really enjoying the extra modes (career has been a lot of fun for someone like me who loves working through obstacles to move up the ladder, despite funny little bugs and oddities), the scenery both high up and at ground level has been great, and the performance in VR at ultra settings (7800x3d and 4090) has been superb.

I wish I could say I'm surprised the server issue at launch is a surprise, but..well, I'm not. That said, I'm hopeful the awful start for so many people doesn't hamstring development. I think, like 2020, this has a lot of potential to be something special over the next several years.

I made a large post with pics and comments at the Screenshot forum:

Wow. Glad I waited a few days but so far its pretty good. 10minutes to download and about 15 or so to install. Ignored most of everything else except some graphic settings, then flew in the free flight using the DA62. Really fun, looks a little better overall, planes are a little too twitchy (so I need to adjust that), but seeing hundreds of cars on the ground, planes everywhere and barely tanking FPS was nice. I think I capped mine at 45? Looks good overall. Just need to adjust a few things

Definitely working far better for me now, but I still don't know if this is the 'settled' state or whether there's some strain remaining.

If this is the final experience it's still not usable for me. Looking in the SDK it's taking around 2 minutes to download a complex simobject like the new ships.

I'm hoping they up the amount of downloadable content to the model assets as well as planes and airports.

Thread from the official forums about what works/positives/etc: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/msfs-2024-only-positive-comments/669316

And post there by Miltech Simulations:

From a Devs perspective:

  • its now easier than ever to offer multiple variations lf the aircraft, catering different use cases
  • Modularity of components in the cockpit and elsewhere improves performance
  • LODs are now enforced, lowering the toll on Xbox
  • We got many handy new avionics to use
  • Piracy protection has been improved
  • World Updates are finally streamed!
  • New texture compilation methods are more efficient
  • 1st party aircraft can now get updates more frequently instead of waiting for Sim Updates
  • Project compilation times are reduced
  • Far more variables to improve helicopters! Some degree of heli AP supported
  • Tablet has a ton of potential

What is the point of a thread about those it WORKS for.... the real problem is all of us that it does NOT work for. I reinstalled it after seeing claims about how now MS has "fixed" it. Well they've done nothing, it still was sitting in that starting vid 15 minutes later. They've fixed nothing, so I uninstalled it a second time.

Now if only I could get my money back,  thanks MS for refusing to refund for a product that is completely broken.

Because it was an early thread when the forum was flooded with problems and I wanted to get a balanced view to see if it was working for ANYONE. Obviously it was so therefore not a complete disaster. Also those people who had got it working may be able to share their experiences with others so they could get THEIR sims working.

Installed without issues (the second day). Started dabbling with it since, mainly in career mode. Graphics are a net improvement. Performance is very good. Did a flight with the Fenix, all went well (couldn't make FS2Crew work though).

The telling thing is, I haven't touched 2020 since.
