Is this MSFS2024 anything other than a MS Moneygrab?

Featured Replies

I've followed the hype from Asobo and hopes and aspirations of the YouTube word not allowed since MSFS2024 was announced.  After yesterday's debacle (for which heads should roll), aside from the gimmics and 'gameplay' that Asobo seems to think attracts Joe Public, it would be interesting to learn of anything in this release that would not have been possible to  introduce via upgrading (as has happened over the past 4 years) various sections of the 2020 program.

Cloud provision is not one of them so let's rule that out for starters.

  • I'd say the tessellation improvements for sure.  I don't think they had support for the much higher resolution of runways, taxiways, ramps etc.  The ground up close is so much better, grass, auto gene

Definitely not a money grab. But not thought through release.

I9 12900K @ 5.1ghz P-cores/ 4.0 ghz E-cores fixed HT off / Corsair iCue H150i Capellix Cooler/ MSI Z690 CARBON WiFi / 32GB Corsair DDR5 RAM @ 5200 mhz XMP on / 12GB MSI 4090 RTX Ventus 3 / 7,5 total TB SSD (2+2+2+1+0,5 all NVMe)/ PSU 850W Corsair / 27" (1080P)

I'd say the tessellation improvements for sure.  I don't think they had support for the much higher resolution of runways, taxiways, ramps etc.  The ground up close is so much better, grass, auto generated stuff like I saw hay bales in fields in the fall!  The trees are night and day better.  The denseness of the clouds are improved, obviously the lighting.  It's true that REX had improved that in 2020 with their product.  But their product wasn't free either...

I guess I'm confused though....  all this work takes time and effort.  We've had four years of MANY free world updates, avionics updates etc.  They can't just keep making stuff for free.  I'm trying to be logical here and not treat your post like trolling.  You only have 47 posts though...

...........and what does that have to do with the sun coming up tomorrow morning?  Mine's a legitimate question that I happen to believe valid to ask.  Of course, the rational world might look differently in the Minneapolis troll world.

Because people come here or lurk here for years with hardly any contributions... and then they wait for moments like this (this sim had a bad launch its no lie)... and come out with a post like this - typically people have an agenda... example - someone is a developer from another sim and wishes to throw shade onto the new sim so people will be upset and move to "Their product".  Seems extreme but it has happened in the past.  I'm not saying yours is but I've seen behavior like this from people with very few contributions (posts) at avsim.

Plus a money grab?  Truly... you expect things for free for how long?

NO it ISN'T!

MSFS

You don't have to have thousands of posts to have your voice heard or to be taken seriously. The more loquacious people here tend to look down on people who would rather observe than reply en mass to every thread.

That said - Microsoft has a market cap of over $3 billion, so to my knowledge, they are in business to make money from anyone willing to give it to them. It's how capitalism works.

Unfortunately, in the gaming world, it's a race to the bottom. Lately, the most anticipated titles with budgets in the hundreds of millions are released in various states of mess. But the market tolerates it and publishers keep doing it. I don't blame the publishers, after all, caveat emptor.

It feels like a free to play game with infinite flight characteristics. It’s not even half as good as 2020. What else could it be?

I believe for many is not so much the bugs; but the facts Misobo sell a streaming game that at the moment is not streaming; as results gamers get frustrated to wait and wait often without play it. Think for a moment; could not be worst really.

This is the only thing that prevented DLC style Updates, the Career Mode, the UI, the physics improvements, the lighting engine upgrade etc - all of that could've easily been added straight to MSFS2020 via an Update process and not an entirely new Sim. But seeing as they've gone full Cloud then there is the reason to provide a new title and yes earn some extra money. Personally I would've preferred they ignored the Cloud and just upgraded MSFS2020 over time, I would've happily paid extra for new features and big updates and stuff.

MS/Asobo were very clear that MS2024 was developed because they could not achieve what they wanted with 2020.

CPU Ryzen 7800X 3D  RAM 32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR5 6000MHz GPU GEFORCE RTX 4090
Monitor AOC AGON AG352UCG UltraWide G-Sync @ 3440x1440
Internal Storage 1TB NVMe PCIe SSD
External Storage Three 4Tb HDs

Id say it was. You don't own anything. You just own the licence to access it. They thought they'd try a backdoor method of a subscription service and if it worked they'd probably do it a lot more. A lot of companies want to get into subscription models with cloud and not just in gaming but any services including the company I work for. There's no money to be made in customer on premises ownership.

We didn't ask nor need this new version. We didn't need or ask for cloud gaming.

And what were they trying to achieve? because from where I standing 2020 is a far more stable and solid experience. So they want you to not actually fly the planes but walk about on the ground looking for animals? Is that their vision?

People steal for the same reasons you outline...doesn't make it acceptable. Some of you guys need to enter the mental gymnastics, you'd clear up the medals.
