Is this MSFS2024 anything other than a MS Moneygrab?

Featured Replies

Now that the streaming is working correctly and not sitting in a line.  I'm just happy to have gained nearly 400GB of free space back on my drive and if I ever need to reinstall it will take less than an hour, instead of over 24hrs  Money grab? No, I would have to eventually buy a new SSD the way 2020 was headed with it's bulging size. 2024 is saving me money.

  • I'd say the tessellation improvements for sure.  I don't think they had support for the much higher resolution of runways, taxiways, ramps etc.  The ground up close is so much better, grass, auto gene

  • I would assume Ryan considered “troll” because only 47 posts AND your Hyperbolic  Headline concerning “Money Grabs”.  I assume you work for a living?  Bills to pay?  Kids to raise?  Sound like you?  W

  • Because people come here or lurk here for years with hardly any contributions... and then they wait for moments like this (this sim had a bad launch its no lie)... and come out with a post like this -

You seem to not understand, that the sim is rendering the enviroment which is visible (but obviously not the whole earth) exactly the same way regardless whether it runs a free flight or a mission. Rendering this AI based landscape is not costing more performance when in free flight.

Not sure you fully understand, but it is what it is. Plenty have confirmed this already. It makes total sense that the side quest games will get better performance. Open world is a thing, of course not all is rendered as that would be demented, but open world has to do things differently if the player decides to take a totally different path. As far as i can tell, and i have asked but no one enlightened me, the quests are pretty much linear.

I'll ask again, if you are doing a side quest, mission or whatever, can you just decide to fly to France if you are in the UK and its asked you to drop a plane off 10 mins away?

If you can't, then by definition the side quests are not open world...

You know why they had to go to that model?

That's not right. Cloud gaming is the future for MS because they are getting their backsides handed to them by Sony, whose PS5 is outselling Xbox consoles by 3:1. The console is a drag on MS Gaming profitability and the most popular game titles are locked into Sony's ecosystem.

From MS' POV, cloud gaming removes the (MS-subsidised) hardware barrier to their game titles, leverages some of the lowest latency and best server capacity available, and opens up the possibility of hosting popular games currently only available on Sony's and Nintendo's environments.

by implementing all the different aspects, including career mode, walkarounds etc etc, are at the expense of time spent making the exisiting 2020 better. Clearly, if you are developing a sim to incorporate so many variables, then it has to be at the expense of the base sim improvements, IMO anyway.

Well Howard, that has been mentioned many times already, but I think there are different teams working on different aspects of the sim. If Asobo would make the choice to allocate everyone to making the sim perfect they might miss sales. The sim is also about attracting newcomers and for them the challenges and the career mode may be more appealing then going full fledged 'core simmer' straight away.

BTW, you mention the 'core simmer,' I mentioned that, only because I believe that's the term Asobo used to describe one of three users of the sim

You're right about that. They should stop too 😁 I do understand and respect all different ways we approach and use our simulator game, but a low and slow no nonsense flyer is as much a core simmer to me as he or she with a home cockpit and a serious approach towards performing their flights.

It can't be a money grab when the store issued prompt refunds. The thread should be closed immediately!

Then there is no future unless bandwidth and latency improve dramatically to everyone’s residence … most homes can buy (premium) about 1Gbps (on a good day) of bandwidth and 17ms latency.  Compare that to 1000 Gbps and .2ns latency to your local M.2 storage.  Now move that to 4K HDR or even 8K HDR and try that again … good luck.  If that is “the future” then we’re doomed to mediocrity performance.  If ONLY a future for companies that want to cash in and convince customers mediocrity is fine and “cheap”.

Yes, you can. You can go anywhere you like. Try it.

I suggest you stop spreading misinformation - you clearly have no clue what you're talking about. Don't bother responding with your wall of text posts, I won't be responding.

Reminder: Don't feed the troll.

So in a quest in career you can fly anywhere?

I think this game will be dead in a few months if its not up to snuff in the next few weeks.

I don't think it even has anything to do with that either, I think they want you to buy a subscription model, and doing it this way keeps the control.

In my limited time with MSFS 2024, it seems to run much better with my aging rig i9-10850K, 32GB 3200Mhz, 1TB Samsung NVME, RTX 3080. I am able to now play it in full screen 4K @30FPS in Ultra settings. So at least for me I have seen some improvement, performance wise over MSFS 2020.

Same VR performance feels much smoother and fluid for me in MSFS 2024!🍻

How? I looked last night but couldn't find any option to Download aircraft, thanks

That option is currently disabled. I believe it will be activated when the Marketplace is restored for new purchases.

No and ASOBO haven't either, when you are playing the little gamey side quests and not in free flight, at that point it just streams what you need for that quest, hence better FPS. At that point though it isn't open world like free flight, its a first person shooter on rails... that is how they have done it.

I mean gaming is all just smoke and mirrors anyway, but cutting it up into little gamey quests isn't for me and that seems to be the biggest draw to this game... so i'll wait till a sale i think, i been playing MSFS 2020 more than ever, its reignited it for me, literally you can see the 'quests' on youtube streams then simply do them in 2020... but in free flight so i could at any point go a different way and end up miles away....

I've no idea why you're so hung up on "quests", as though it's some dirty little secret that only you can perceive...

I've done probably 10 short hop free flights already in v2024, mainly just trying out the new aircraft and checking out the changes to the scenery/enviro, etc.

Haven't done a single mission or challenge or whatever as yet - 100% self-directed flights in an out of the way corner of the world.

IOW, all my flights have been a candidate for whatever you believe is robbing performance vs "quests", and I'm getting great performance. Especially when the vastly quicker loading times vs 2020 are considered.

No, your outside-looking-in perception is simply incorrect: v2024 is a superset of v2020, and it's improved in every regard that I've experienced first hand so far.

I will never go back to v2020, even though it's still sitting there on my HD, "just in case".

Doesn't mean you need to jump ship from v2020, especially now while the launch phase issues are worked through. But you're only hurting yourself if you continue to believe these fanciful ideas you're coming up with.

Can't say I'm overwhelmed with joy with it. I expect that's due to the default planes and bugs. I don't notice any graphical improvements?  Much prefer 2020.
