What am I doing wrong here?

The cruise speed listed in FSX for a 747-400 is .85 mach. However, I cannot cruise at this speed with a clear conscience. The N2 is in the red and the throttles are at 95% just to maintain this speed at 35,000 feet. The 747 is supposed to be efficient, but this is anything but!I usually fly with 100% fuel.

How much headwind are you flying in to also?Flap all the way up?Speed brake off?Gear?Your too heavy from what it looks like.Dave ESSb

First off, the default 747 is such a lemon, you might not be doing anything wrong at all.Otherwise, see above poster's suggestions.

I always run through the after takeoff checklist. Flaps are up and speedbrake is off. I have a pretty nice tailwind right now, actually.I'll have a go at reducing the fuel and the PAX. And maybe I should stop holding out on buying a PMDG 747...

Its a good pre purchase practice AC before ya go and plunk a bunch of money down on some heavy hitter payware addons regardless of which ones they are.

The default 747 isn't that bad.If you take off with 100% fuel load and the default cargo and passenger load you are at max take off weight.Climbing higher than 30000ft at this weight doesn't make much sense.At this altitude and weight at mach .84 you have around 87% N1.RegardsBernt Capt 767

Just a little bit boring. I hopped mine up a bit with some of the addon ISG gauges and a few other modifications. Its nice to fly with a V and L nav system in it. Gives ya something to do besides flipping the seat belt switch on and off. :(
