GEX vs FSX default

Recommended Posts

Guest davidvoogd

I was just wondering if there is anywhere I can find direct comparison screenshots showing the exact same view, one FSX default and one GEX. I can't seem to find any on the Flight1 site.

I did do a compare several months ago but of the ORIGINAL GEX release VS defaulthttp://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=24384I have not had any time to do a compare of the ORIGINAL GEX vs ENHANCED GEX vs DEFAULTthere is no compare.. many dont even bother with the FSX default backup now The original GEX version is no longer, its been upgraded to the enhanced versionIf you need more, please read here from a real world pilot:http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=25008and I WILL get shots going I need a rest. I slammed almost 2 months worth of work into just under 4 weeks and I am wipedHere are samples of the enhanced GEX version but remember, screenshots are NEVER what you get IN-GAME and this new version of GEX is dynamic to sun, weather, time of year, time of day, etc so a screenshot wont show you any of thatgo down the forum list and click the sample links... http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=24742many of those shots were UPGRADED FURTHER. They were posted during production while changes were still being made:)

Valcor,It needs to be noted that the link you pointed to is not a screenshot of GEX.Rather, it is a screenshot of GEX plus about 4 other add-on products and does not fairly depict what a purchaser of ONLY Ground Environment X would see in that scene.Having said that, as a proud owner of GEX, I heartily recommend it to anyone considering improving the default ground textures for FSX.Cheers,KevinUpdate:Here is this scene using GEX nHanced textures on a default FSX/SP2 install all sliders to the right):http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/184887.jpgAnd from orbit (real life):http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/184888.jpgThis shot looks good, but like I said, uses about 4 different products costing hundreds of dollars more (it mostly looks better because of the Ultimate Terrain mesh, I think):http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/184889.jpgQuite a testament to what's possible with the FSX engine, though, no?Cheers,Kevin

Unless I'm mistaken, Ultimate Terrain does not provide mesh and the user stated mesh was default.

>Unless I'm mistaken, Ultimate Terrain does not provide mesh>and the user stated mesh was default.Correct UTX does not provide any mesh. It provides textures roads, rivers, streams, bridges, landclass, waterclass, and more. Combine GEX with UTX and sandwich in a commercial landclass product with UTX and let the visuals begin.

Thanks for the help guysI downloaded GEX this afternoon and will buy it when I get home from school. I already bought UT Canada X (must have of course), and just bought the scenery tech NA landclass. I have the FSGenesis mesh for FSX but the default is 38m and seems to do a good enough job so I'm not installing it to save space.

FSG 10m mesh is an option and I do use it, however what you listed properly installed, set up and layered will give you on HECK of a show and the different landclass products will allow you to manipulate GEX Enhamced to deliver different renderings of areasEnjoy!
