Live Weather / Historic Weather always connected to time set

Featured Replies

Hi,

In FS2020 it was completely normal to set your time to whatever you want and still get live weather data.

In FS2024 however, the weather always seems to fetch historical data of the time you set in the sim. I sit in Zurich at the moment. In real live it is snowing there. When I sync the sim time to the real time, the weather is correct. When I set the sim time to morning for example, the weather immideately changes to how it was in real life in Zurich in the morning, even though "Live Weather" is still selected.

Is there any chance to get really live weather even though the time is set differently?

Kind regard

Martin

  • ActiveSky should do the trick, IMO. It's funny that after all these years of begging for historically accurate weather, someone shows up and demand 100%-live weather back 🙂

  • As I understood the issue, this new feature/way of doing it, is exactly what people were screaming about in FS2020. In essence, you want a way to set the time for the weather and sim separately?

  • If thats the solution, than they completely messed up what people wantet with historical weather I think. You should have the option to select historical weather separately from the time. Like this fl

This was changed because people wanted it the opposite way haha. So you can fly at night realtime, after work or whatever, and set the sim time to day time and not get night temps and winds.

right now, the weather is accurate to the time of day (24 hours limit). Try changing the day to like 5 days back and see?

Unfortunately that doesnt help.

That would mean that flying on VATSIM during daylight after work is now more or less impossible. What a mess.

Like this flying on VATSIM is completely impossible if you dont want to fly around in darkness all the time during the winter month.

Ugh - huge downgrade for me - I think it should be an option as to whether you want to sync time to live weather or not.....Not a huge deal breaker but I hope gets looked at for the future.

Just because, they have implemented historic weather differently than what YOU want doesn't mean that they "messed it up".

If you fly offline, it doesn't really matter (apart that all your simbrief plannings will be incorrect, if you don't really always set the real time for your flight). For VATSIM however it means that for someone like me, who mostly uses the sim in the evening after work, it will mean that you always have to fly in darkness or you are not allowed to fly on the network because you have to use live weather for VATSIM.

It's how I prefer it.  I think MSFS 2024 got this part right, although some may have a different preference.

Ah, totally forgot about the 24hr historical weather feature. Yup this was much requested and that's how it's designed to work.

May I ask, do you plan flights with simbrief? If yes, how do you handle that most probably simbrief will give you wrong active runways and wrong winds aloft? As far as I am informed, simbrief does always use actual live weather?

They didn’t mess it up - lots of people kept asking for this, so they implemented it. It makes sense to me.

Vatsim people may need an option in the settings

Thats what I mean. An option would be perfect 🙂

Historic weather On/Off or something like that.

Yeah I’m sure they can look into this. They added loads of things based on user feedback, if enough people want this it will happen

With ActiveSky, you can upload a historical weather snapshot to Simbrief using the Simbrief downloader utility, and it will use those winds for planning.
