Have you tried selecting a time that's in the future or more than 24 hours in past?

Historical weather is supposed to be only for 24 hours.

Interesting indeed .... though one has not "guessed" how frequent the archives of earlier metars are recorded yet.

One hopes the archives are every 10-15mins over the previous 24 hours & hence record weather changes as often as they are recorded by most jurisdictions, particularly SPECI's .... for example, as I write https://aviationweather.gov/data/metar/?id=KSFO&hours=24

AS's historic archives are only (the latest in) an hourly record & often out of sequence with flight time. One thus further hopes AS follow the apparent lead of MSFS in this & for all platforms.

But then you all review TAF's for planning, don't you ?

From what I recall from an earlier dev Q&A, the way they are doing this is to basically preserve *everything* in the living world on the server-side.. so that's all the weather data not just METARs but everything weather related and what the server-side processed/calculated (including Meteoblue) and served up across the globe for the past 24 hours, all live aircraft/ship/etc traffic, and other stuff I believe. It's basically a preservation of the past 24 hours of the MSFS world.

Once the teething issues are over and the sim is more usable would be really interesting to find out how well all this works and what people think.

Yes, this is exactly what they said on a stream. They preserve state of everything for 24 hours

A simple toggle switch would literally solve all the problems here. Total swing and a miss. Let me have live weather, but let me choose what time of day I want to fly. It really is that simple.

But...that would simply make too much sense.  Giving users the ability to customize their use of the sim, like we have had in almost every iteration of msfs/P3D, seems to be of low priority to Asobo (they know best) resulting in much deserved angst directed their way.

That’s how it was in 2020.

And one of the most requested items through 4 years of customer feedback was how this is garbage and to enable exactly the kind of behaviour you’re seeing in 2024…

they literally added this feature because people were asking for it since 2020 launched

Yes, and I agree that it's great that they listened to the community about historical weather. 

Perhaps I'm mistaking things, but under the new system if you're flying at ,say,  8 pm real time and switch the sim time to 1 pm you will get historical weather for 1pm - not actual live weather for 8pm. 

Personally, I fly this way all the time (I know many other that do, as well) and not having the option for live, current weather being depicted in the sim at whatever time I choose to fly, is a step backward and could easily be solved with a toggle.  

Maybe I'm misunderstanding things here?

Working on it... for the past 7 days we hope to make it at the temporal resolution of 10 minute archives (TBD).

To be fair they completely misunderstood the whole premise surrounding "Historical Weather" for years until they finally realised what people were asking for, so it's no suprise they've done it this way without even thinking about an Option like we're suggesting.

I think the option would be already there. There are to tabs in the weather menu.  "Live" on the left side of the menu and "Custom" on the right. However, in the "Custom" tab you can still select live weather like in FS2020. The problem is, that the live weather in the "Custom" menu is not really live but connected to the time you set.

An easy solution would be:

"Live" Tab: Live Weather connected to the time you set using historical data

"Custom Tab": Really Live weather like it is right now, independent of the time you set.

At the moment the two tabs are more or less redundant because both do the same.
