I'm curious if a fair compromise would be that you still have to start outside the plane but how you left the plane last is how you find it on the next flight. In that regard, for those who dont want to do the task of removing covers and such, they could just end their flight without doing and post securing and then when they start their next flight, simply  just push Shift+C and you are in a cold and dark cockpit free of chocks, covers or tie downs. Would that suffice?

My hopes are that the way it is currently setup, it is just a place holder for later adding a wear and tear system for free flight that didnt make it in time for the release. As a small plane GA pilot I find this to be highly realistic and part of the overall flight that I welcome but if I flew only the big planes, I really wouldn't care to do all the stuff a co-pilot or ground crew would do during the start of the flight.

I guess what to know is if for those who dont want to start outside of the plane, if their grip is that they dont like having to do a walk around or that just in general, they just want to start sitting down.

The issue is not that simplistic.  Most of current customer-enthusiasts have addon aircraft models that currently do not embrace this feature. Then it is offensive that when opening a flight the aircraft is "in your face" close.  Pilot's nose literally pressed to the fuselage.  In no way realistic.  Walkaround should begin from some distance away.  Sim should also recognize aircraft that are compliant with MSFS 2024 walkaround vs those that are not and differentiate how it then starts.  Then, in recognition of novice customer-enthusiasts, an option to opt out of this feature should be provided in the Settings. Assistance area.

As a former pilot I do not at all object to a pre-flight walkaround, recognizing the importance.  The sim just needs to recognize the current landscape of available aircraft models and range of customer-enthusiasts and be patient bringing it full circle.

Hope I'm not hijacking this post but is there really no way to start a free flight in the cockpit showing the standard pilot's view as in FS 2020?

Have tried everything but no success.

Apparently not. I am flying the payware version of the Vision Jet and even though it has no walk around functions (you remove chocks etc. using the tablet in the cockpit) I still start a flight in walk around mode, so outside. I always have to press Shift-C. Luckily I can skip the mandatory walk around: having to remove chocks and covers etc. gets boring and annoying quickly. (I do hope that when they update the payware VJ they keep that tablet!)

Strange. Did a view flights and always started in the cockpit. This was starting from a runway though. So cold and dark if that is what you try to achieve?

Unfortunately Shift-C doesn't work for me. The only way to get me into the cockpit right away is, like DAD mentioned, starting from a runway. I feel that MS/Asobo at least should give us an option to disable the walk-around and have us set in the cockpit, cold and dark, right away. As we were used to in FS2020. Just my $0,02

that's it. who would walk around while already on the runway? try this in your 747 in O'Hare, LAX etc. 😄

Thanks for this advice, but unfortunately this doesn't work for me. Do you have any other suggestions that might get me into a cold and dark cockpit without the walk around?

If shift-C is not working, then you likely changed your keyboard layout to the 2020 legacy k/b assignments. If that's the case, you can remap the function to another single key. I used "o". I can't remember the original function of "o" but I never use it. Deleted the original assignment. So now I hit a single key (o) to get in and out of the cockpit, since I set my k/b to default 2020 layout.

When I get home in about an hour I'll look up the function name so you know what to look for in order to bind the function. Cheers.

Hi,

Shift+C simply puts you in the cockpit, but then you have to go out again and do the -word not allowed- walk around!

Greetings

We really do need a first officer to do so. So far FS2024 was nothing but a royal pain in the word-not-allowed- for me. Glad I still have my good old FS2020.

Those who can’t get Shift-C to work (and haven’t changed default keyboard mappings) try changing your avatar in the customize identity menu.  This issue stumped me for hours! Note that I also couldn’t move around properly using WASD keys and this was corrected too.

Ok.

From the settings, go to the controls section of the sim. Click "Keyboard" on the "Devices List" on the left. In the search pane, type " Take Control Of Character". This will show you the current key assignment of that function, which merely puts you into and out of the cockpit.

If there is none, then you likely switched your KB to "Keyboard 2020 Transversal" Under the "Keyboard Presets Config" on the bottom left.  By default out of the box, it is "Keyboard 2024 transversal"

Personally, I switched to the 2020 preset, as that is what I'm used to from MSFS 2020. Of course this preset does not have ANY k/b assignment for "Take Control Of Character". So I assigned a single key to do this. The letter "o".  This was already assigned to something else (cannot remember) all I know is that I never used that function- not by keyboard anyway. So I deleted said function, and assigned "Take Control Of Character" to the letter "o". You will find 2 more functions assigned to this key, however it is in combination with the shift key, so as such there is no need to delete these, if you don't wish to do so.

Of course you can assign it to pretty much whatever key, or combination thereof you desire. The function is also present in an xbox controller- I don't remember what it is ATM. Cheers 🙂

Thank you very much. I will give it a try the minute I'm back at my computer. In the meantime someone else found that when you put your aircraft on any spot of the map the aircraft will give you the option to start cold and dark or in turn around mode. The aircraft will not be at 1500ft as in FS2020 but parked on terra firma. This I also will try later on today. FYI, I indeed switched my keyboard to "keyboard 2020 Transversal" (whatever transversal might be). Thanks again for your help in this matter.
