We will be able to download aircraft to avoid streaming it

Featured Replies

Looks like Asobo is working on it:

Hi @SimbolFSReborn,

Yes, “My Library” will allow to download an aircraft (or any other package) locally to avoid having to stream it. I am not 100% sure on the ETA but I think it should be before Christmas.

Of course we initially planned to have this option available for launch but didn’t manage to achieve it - apologies for the inconvenience.

Best regards,

Eric / Asobo

@Umberto67,

I’ll have to check with the team in charge (obviously I can’t right now since it’s Saturday) but I believe My Library will allow you to activate/deactivate packages - so in case you have two add-ons covering the same airport, it will allow you to choose the one you want to use.

Best regards,

Eric / Asobo

And it looks like Standard version aircraft were not supposed to be encrypted but they made a mistake before release (can't say the same thing about Premium Deluxe and Deluxe aircraft though, they are discussing it):

Hi everyone,

Just to let you know: the topic is being discussed internally - I hope I’ll get back with answers for you in the coming days.

  • We know that not being able to look into Standard aircraft is a problem so I am confident there will soon be a satisfactory solution for everyone - actually, it should already be possible but it looks like we (my team) forgot something in the VFSProjector…
  • Then there will be the topic of modifying those Standard aircraft - we are discussing potential solutions so that should become possible soon too. However please note that the changes you make locally will most probably only affect the aircraft in free flight - not in career or competitive modes.
  • For payware aircraft things may be different - if a developer doesn’t want his product to be browsed by everyone, then there’s no reason why we should allow it. Which will also prevent changes to the aircraft.

Happy to discuss further with you all.

Best regards,

Eric / Asobo

I’ll have to check but since the Standard aircraft are not actually encrypted, I think the debug tools should work with them - probably the same mistake than that we made in the VFSProjector.

As for contracts with partners, I am sure you know the SDK Team is not involved in that part of the project at all.

Best regards,

Eric / Asobo

Great! If you have better airports than Asobo's, you can now use them and DL the Asobo version. And then use it or park it manually or with AoL. I use AoL because I'm constantly switching airport versions in 2020. In my case the 1935 old airports exchanged in and and out with the modern versions by clicking a mouse using AoL. Presto Chango!

Are default aircraft in FS2024 editable?

Ah! Thank you @abrams_tank !!!

You and @lwt1971 (who just changed his avatar???) are our main FS 20XX promoters and guiders 🙂

Regarding the model of FS 2024 - I'm actually 100% for pure streaming and nothing other than the very basic on premise ...

If it's a change - let it be !

No problem! I think the option to download, or to stream the aircraft, is the best of both worlds 👍🏻

Splendid news indeed. First off, aircraft and Europe tile for me😅.

I9 12900K @ 5.1ghz P-cores/ 4.0 ghz E-cores fixed HT off / Corsair iCue H150i Capellix Cooler/ MSI Z690 CARBON WiFi / 32GB Corsair DDR5 RAM @ 5200 mhz XMP on / 12GB MSI 4090 RTX Ventus 3 / 7,5 total TB SSD (2+2+2+1+0,5 all NVMe)/ PSU 850W Corsair / 27" (1080P)

The very existence of this feature for what is actually a very small piece of the total bandwidth pie is validation that the completely online flight sim model is never going to work.

They are ONLY doing this to give control of 3rd party assets back to the 3rd parties though imo.

There will always be some online aspect to MSFS. The whole world of MSFS requires some petabytes of data to store. There is no hard drive today that can store a petabyte of data.

Yes of course but the simulator should work if there is no Internet.

Perhaps they can add the offline mode back, it's a nice option to have. Personally, I never played in the offline mode in MSFS 2020 and if my internet wasn't working, I wouldn't use MSFS 2020 on that day.

Loading time is to long, especially for developers. Could we get a quick, offline boot with just an empty airport and your project. Many thanks.

ps: I would sacrifice hd space if I could avoid streaming.
