  • Beautiful pics. We really need separate forums for 2024 & 2020. Mods this is getting ridiculous.

Nice pics! I remember there was a certain person last year, who kept coming to the MSFS forums here, and kept ranting about the "pebbles, pebbles, and pebbles" on the MSFS 2024 presentation and d

How many Terabytes of scenery does XP 12 require to look decent, and at what cost?

I'm going to go on record and predict that XP 13 won't look as good graphically, especially at the ground level, as MSFS 2024.  It's possible that XP 13 catches up with MSFS 2024 graphically, but IMO, unlikely.

With XP 12, the engine is simply not as efficient as MSFS 2020, nevermind MSFS 2024.  The clouds are still blurry in the latest version of XP 12 that I have seen, and this is one of the biggest problems of XP 12 for me, the blurry clouds.  The best way I can describe the clouds in XP 12 is that somebody took a random pair of glasses and put it on you, and the glasses don't match your vision, so everything is blurry (I think we have all tried a family member's or friend's pair of glasses before and everything looks blurry when you put it on).

But I think LR can't turn up the sharpness of the clouds by much because their rendering engine will struggle if they do, and the FPS will take a big hit.  It looks like LR still hasn't refactored and restructured all their code - if they did, XP 12 would run like MSFS 2024.  And I think the MSFS team did wonders with MSFS 2020 already, making MSFS 2020 pretty efficient and that's why MSFS 2020 gave such good FPS, especially with frame generation.  Which is even more impressive that the MSFS team was able to make MSFS 2024 even more efficient than MSFS 2020!

I know that LR is hiring people to make XP 12 look better, seems like they hired Mister X for just that.  But without a massive refactoring and restructuring of their engine when they release XP 13, I doubt that XP 13 can catch up to MSFS 2024 graphically. I could be wrong though, I guess we will see.

Even if you are flying airliners, the first thing you will notice when you take off and you land, are the improvement in the trees in MSFS 2024. And also the patches of land as you takeoff and land look much better and more realistic in MSFS 2024.

But yes, if you are 30K feet in the air, the difference isn't as drastic between MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024.

2024 has a great look. Enjoying it very much atm.

Yes I know, but as an airliner flyer you say you don't benefit from the improvements down low. However, you do benefit from balance / lighting / cloud improvements.

Yes I never said anything else? I'm just waiting for that single sim-time bug to be fixed and for weather to be disconnected with in-sim time.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

and how much time. knowledge, frustration & effort required by each individual who only wanted to fly a flight simulator, not learn the nitty-gritty details of a DIY scenery development kit?

we owe it to Joerg Neumann's broad and farsighted approach to this hobby. instead of focusing on his private priorities and only on the university doctorate study-level niche aspects, he created a sim for everybody - from total beginners to GA enthusiasts to airline wannabe captains. that's why they earned the funds and can afford to develop this most expensive to create, most fantastic simulator, and ultimately outsold any other flight simulator.

Oh, no. We get it. I will go to 2024 when my Avro RJ is in the sim. With all the ground, tree, grass mods I have....2020 still looks really good for me. Default, between the two there is no comparison really. 2024 takes the cake? Whatever that saying is.

though, I think I will bring over the Comanche or 310 and give some GA airports a whirl again. It is simply beautiful in 2024. Just missing my favorite planes from 2020 still.

For RW coverage of the entire world, more like petabytes. I assume XP is destined to stick with computer-drawn artificial scenery forever.

Do you have that in-sim target FPS setting enabled?, the sim could be downgrading various visual fidelity settings to maintain the target FPS. Either that or the streaming probs or other bugs some confoundingly experience while others don't.

EDIT: sorry, you meant not seeing the pics in this actual post, and not similar quality scenes in-sim 🙂
