Nice pics! I remember there was a certain person last year, who kept coming to the MSFS forums here, and kept ranting about the "pebbles, pebbles, and pebbles" on the MSFS 2024 presentation and d

It is quite amazing seeing 2020 looking so flat now, just a week after 2024 release.  When I see 2020 now, that awful colour balance really stands out.

I wouldn't know - v2020 got nuked from my HD after about 4 days. 😎

I still have hopes for the scenery in XP12.2 when released, but at present it's difficult to start a sim session in any other sim, excluding DCS World and in some aspects and due to the specific modelling of gliders Condorsoaring too, without feeling that I have to rush back to FS 2024's scenery...

Simply astounding, the quality and level of details in FS 2024...

There's no way in heck XP is going to make the quantum leap necessary to come to par on scenery - at least not any time in the near future.

That said, I've been spending some time in XP (mainly to disprove the trollers who like to come in here and talk smack), but also to enjoy a few favored addons like the JRX Bell 407 and the new JF Piper Arrow III with REP, and my comfy FF 757 (all of which are substantially better than their counterparts in MSFS).

Combine top shelf addons like those with some TrueEarth scenery and it still makes for a quite satisfying experience.

Same thing with DCS World: there's simply no experience like it in MSFS, and the modules/addons there generally have no peers in MSFS/XP/P3D/FSX (even the HeatBlur F-14 can't match the HeatBlur F-14 across the two sims).

That said, v2024 is an astounding achievement and in many ways provides exactly what I've been dreaming of for a flight sim experience for literally decades. 🙂

And that's as it stands NOW, with all the "problems". I can hardly wait to see how good MSFS will get as time goes on. 😎

I think MSFS 2024 will eventually replace MSFS 2020, as the best civilian flight sim ever made.

and so much more going on in the background that our eyes don't see, yet it cost CPU and GPU cycles.

How many Terabytes of scenery does XP 12 require to look decent, and at what cost?

I just bought a brand new 4TB NVME to help me hold scenery for all my other sims.

That said, the MSFS addons are quite "chunky", too - the IFT/HB F-14 is 8GB, FSR500 is 12GB, etc., and IIRC the iB A300 is pushing 14GB.

Not to mention following Asobo's advice to allocate a significantly more space to the cache drive for MSFS.

So, even v2024 will easily pork back up to hundreds of GBs, esp for those of us who really like lots of nice airports and pretty planes. 🙂

Still, as long as you've got a solid internet connection, v2024 is quite a cost-effective sim. 🙂

In addition to crisp textures like this, I just took off from Catalina and all the small elevations between the taxiway and runway are just unreal because its as cratered and hilly as a waffle yet the taxiway and runway are smooth but not flat. As if they actually graded and paved where the asphalt is and not the surrounding terrain. Its is so enjoyable to finally see this kind of detail.

Nice, as soon as the many many show stopping (for me) bugs get fixed I’ll be getting it.

beauty comes at a price though: 99% GPU load, but isn't it why I got my RTX 4090 in the first place?

and 430 Watt board power draw.  I'll save a lot this winter, no heating required. 4090 pays for itself. the more I fly. 😃

Yup, the new sim runs great. I haven't started MSFS2020 since I got it. Not out of principle or anything, just haven't felt the need to.

With Jörg's promise of 99.999% streaming reliability, things are looking good. And to be honest, I haven't had any issues with this for a few days now. Can't remember how long.

Been installing more and more payware airports as they are updated (Orbx Central, iniManager, Aerosoft One, Contrail, SimMarket) + tested a variety of other addons (they work):

  • FSHud v2
  • AIG models
  • Fenix A32x
  • Bijan Seasons 2024
  • RealTurb
  • MSFS Map Enhancement
  • ..and probably a few more
