Has Microsoft kneecapped MSFS 2020 to make 2024 look better?

I’ve read this topic three times now and I cannot believe some of these replies the poor OP is receiving. He made a suggestion that is not unreasonable given the situation he found him in.

But as is usual with any suggested criticism of MSFS some people come down on him like a ton of bricks. How do any of you know what is going on behind the scenes with the servers? You cannot. You don’t know any more than the poor chap making the suggestion.

This is meant to be a place where people come to share experiences and to ask questions. Some of you need to think before you post. If you have information about the servers and it comes from a credible source then provide a link. Otherwise refrain from posting inflammatory replies.

No one has got a formal warning …. yet.

The OP's statement is no different than if i were to vent that my mobile phone network's 4G coverage has been deliberately throttled so that I have to upgrade to a 5G plan.

(It hasn't, BTW. Instead, the networks have hit capacity. Read this if interested https://www.londoncentric.media/p/why-exactly-is-londons-phone-signal)

Since the launch of 2024 and the servetr debacle, 2020 now hangs for nearly a minute on the checking for updates screen adding almost a minute to the total load time.  I have read that some of the 2020 server capacity was moved over to support 2024 so maybe that is the reason.

I also noticed that hang on MSFS20 startup. Resolved for me since yesterday.

Thanks Ray.  My sole evidence is 2020 used to load in about 4 minutes for me and now with the same everything, it takes 5:40 minutes.  2024 can range from 6 minutes to 5 minutes.  I was and am an experieced simmer starting with Sublogic somewhere in the dark ages.  lt is frustrating as the usual fixes do not help.  I have plenty of disk space over Two SSD's and one M2 with nothing over about 60% of capacity.  When loading and using 2020 and 2024, they both work properly, although, FPS is much lower in 2024 using thhe same settings and aircraft.    Apparently asking others to assist was a mistake and others appear to be looking for a reason to belittle a post and offer nothing benefical.

Given our collective 4 year history of connectivity spikes and dips all the time, experiencing a dip (if that’s even what the OP’s problem actually is and not something local to their machine like a new addon), asking if the reason is MS covertly reducing capacity is akin to encouraging a conspiracy theory.

I assume it’s the word “kneecapped” you object to. It was a question, not “unsubstantiated conjecture and emotive language based solely on vibes”.

Did you swallow a dictionary before writing that? Your link has nothing to do with 2020 server capacity. Do you have a link to a Microsoft announcement admitting server capacity has been exceeded on the 2020 servers?

It was the insinuation that MS/Asobo *purposely* scaled back and made 2020 perform *worse*, in order to "make 20204 look better"... can you at least agree that's far more than a question for help, and falls more in the conjecture category? Are we allowed to at least respond to that as wild conjecture/speculation that is wholly unsubstantiated?

If the OP actually didn't mean to accuse MS/Asobo of that and merely was just seeking help per their recent post, then can you really blame anyone for thinking otherwise given the title and original post?

Am I along or is Microsoft trying to cover up their poor execution of MSFS 2024?

No, but I heard disturbing news the earth is flat. 😉

I have not yet purchased 2024. I have flown several flights over the past 2 days in 2020 and have not noticed anything different from the last time I flew back on 11/25. No unusual delays, stutters, or scenery problems of any kind. And no loss of connection messages. Situation normal. US east coast.

About the server capacity for 2020 being reduced and some of it being "moved over" to help with 2024. Did MS/Asobo actually state that somewhere? Or is that more wild speculation?

Hopefully its not hard to understand that sometimes stuff actually happens without being announced

Wrong forum. That was Flight Simulator 2004.

ok, enough of this.

IMHO, the question was a fair one by the OP but the title was intentionally misleading. Perhaps just asking if anyone knows why your system appears to be slower with 2020 might have been better.

anyhow, this has now become a semantics thread - down it goes.

No, it wasn’t an insinuation, it was a question. Yes, he used an unusual word but  when people are annoyed that sometimes happens.

He certainly wasn’t accusing them. It was a question based on his own experience.

I see the topic has been locked now so no further discussion is possible. Can people please take a chill pill and not react in such an aggressive manner.
