FlightSim Community Survey 2024

As we approach the end of 2024, we can safely say that it’s been an eventful year for the flight simulation community. With releases still being rolled out and tested, we have decided to postpone this year’s FlightSim Community Survey until early 2025. This will allow us to capture the sentiment of the community more comprehensively and accurately. We are looking forward to your participation, keep a look out on our social media accounts for more information.

Makes sense.

The prospective major player will be FS 2024, but it's still too early - it has just been released, although it's already very functional.

Maybe they should ALSO wait for X-Plane 12 to get into 12.2, which is said to be an upcoming rather promising update.

Main Simulation Rig:

Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti, 1 TB & 500 GB M.2 nvme drives, Win11.

Lenovo TB310FU 9,5" Tablet for Navigraph and some available external FMCs or AVITABs

Simulators used, in alphabetic order: Condorsoaring 3 | FS 2024  | XP12

Looks like it's a good idea. Too many things going on at the moment for the survey to be useful.

Cheers, Ed

How bad but not a big surprise...when XP got released as an early-beta and wasn't very stable they didn't postpone it. But when it is the monopolist (that can buy everything they want, even for not having to deal with bad reviews or a survey) of course it gets postponed....this is a big joke but doesn't surprise me a bit tbh. Unfortunately it shows how biased the community has become and who is steering in the background. Navigraph-folks must have many friends over there...

Given how MS have added free charts and so made Navigraph obsolete for all but the pickiest of users, I'm not sure that makes sense.

The decision to postpone the survey doesn‘t make any sense to me other than that. I cannot see another reason than artificially trying to not make 2024 look bad, whatever the reason behind it may be. They never had a problem doing it when other sims were new/unstable and having issues. The survey is supposed to show exactly that: an evolution over time. The fact that 2020 may still have more users than 2024 is simply the reality, exactly as it was the reality for other sims that needed time before becoming more popular. By doing that, they are breaking the whole base of having a solid and consistent survey over time. Which reasons other than some kind of dependancy (whatever those may be) for that decision do you see and how would you explain the fact that they never postponed it when other sims were in that same situation?

So the real question is when will the survey take place?

Looking back when XP12 went public beta in September 5, 2022 as an early access was still counted in the survey 2 months later. So I suppose, if they are being fair, I would say, late Jan or early Feb will be about right for them to collect enough data to conduct the survey, while MS can vet out some of their issue and letting the dust settle.

I don't see them waiting for X-Plane 12.2

I wonder how long they will keep updating those charts before they start charging for them.

Might (conspiracy here...) also bee a good reason for the delay...

Can't speak for MS as I've not got it working in FS2024, but I still pay for the subscription in X-Plane. However, I never really put any weight on these Navigraph surveys either way. Whilst they are interesting, I'm not sure it reaches a very wide range of customers and the results are skewed to those that frequent simming forums or use products that actively promote it.

At the same time they are the best we have…I don‘t know of any other survey or estimation related to the market-shares.

Agreed.

If you're running a yearly survey or tracking long-term trends, it's usually better to wait until things settle down, no?

So for Navigraph and its partners , the results are more consistent and easier to compare with past surveys, without being skewed by  ahemm, temporary disruptions.

To further elaborate, data is being collected, processed and presented during a span of many months. Upon publishing, the collected data might be so out of touch it is basically useless and the '24 survey will always have a big fat asterisk next to it, serving a merely nostalgic value instead of business one.

Also Asobo has their own navdata supplier, charts supplier and their own online flight Planner. That's alot of wedges into Navigraph business model alone.

quite frankly, i'm more interested in the v2024 uptake, and the relative position of XP and how much it's grown.

Id rather wait a few months than wait a full year to find out.
