This same thing happened to me before 2024 was released, acted as if I had never used it. The reinstall was almost instant because I still had all the files where they belonged. My logbook was unchanged, but all sim and controls settings gone. Oddly all my controls settings eventually reappeared after a week or so.

Interesting, maybe I will give it few days and try again. Question, when you setup controls temporary, was the new setup replaced by your old setup? I am just worried by saving things temporary, it will permanently wipe my settings forever

The reality is that nobody knows what will happen over the next days or weeks. MS got themselves into a complete mess forcing through an unfinished release. The developers, ASOBO, are hopefully working on some of the problems, but they are also constrained by the MS beancounters who ultimately decide on server capacity. The evidence suggests that capacity is being switched back and forth between the two sims, probably in response to the level of complaints in each case. The result is unstable and unpredictable running of both sims for a large number of users.

That's exactly my feeling. Issues started for me one day after they dropped MSFS 2024, and everybody started screaming and asking for refunds. So, as the saying goes,"they robbed Peter to pay Paul".

Hi Omar,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Flight Simulator Support.

We are sorry to hear that all your settings were reset in MSFS2020. We understand how this can be inconvenient and how it can affect your gaming experience, so rest assured that we will look into it to find a resolution.

First, please make sure the Xbox Services are running automatically.

  • In the Windows search bar, type "Services"
  • Select "Services"
  • Scroll down to the bottom. Double-click on each entry for Xbox and make sure none of those services are not disabled or set to manual. Set everything to "Automatic".

You can also try to reinstall the Gaming Services:

  1. Select the Search icon on the taskbar, type powershell, right-click on Windows PowerShell, and then select Run as administrator.
  2. In Windows PowerShell, type the following command and press Enter:
    get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers
  3. In the same window, type the following command and press Enter:
    start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN
  4. Install the app on that page and select Yes when you receive the User Account Control (UAC) prompt.
  5. Restart your device and try to install the game again.

If you're still having trouble installing or launching Microsoft Flight Simulator after reinstalling Gaming Services, go to:
>>Fix problems with apps from Microsoft Store
>> Troubleshoot issues with the Xbox app for Windows

This issue can also happen when the config file cannot be overwritten. To fix this issue, please do the following:

  • Find the config file "UserCfg.opt"
  • Right-click on UserCfg.opt
  • Select Properties > General tab
  • Uncheck Read-only

By default, you'll find the UserCfg.opt at the following location:

MICROSOFT STORE VERSION:

C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache
STEAM VERSION:

C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator

If you're not able to load the settings again, please try reinstalling MSFS2020 or remapping the keys. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

If you have further questions or doubts, please do not hesitate to reach us back.

I'm not sure because I didn't fly for a while and had only redone the controls for one plane. But no guarantee the old ones will show back up for you, my case was a little different in that I didn't lose my profile settings. Are you completely unable to re-install? I just pointed out the xboxgames location where all the files were to begin with so it was quick since it saw them already installed.
