Porting Fs2020 aircraft mods to FS2024

Featured Replies

I have a new mod for the Diamond DA62, originally made for FS2020 but not yet published. I've managed to get it working (pretty well) in FS2024. The only glitch appears to be that it will only load ONE livery out of the many I made. Does anyone have any experience of a similar thing or indeed any info about why that should be. Oddly FS2024 is allowing only the use of the 2nd livery, not the first. I looked through each aircraft cfg fight.sim entry and except for the livery names and texture numbering the entries are identical.

Try the "replacing periods by underscores" strategy and report back.. 🙂

I've been struggling myself, trying to work out the new hierarchy. It's all a little bizarre - and the SDK documentation is conflicting/confusing.

If you're able to put what you have in Dropbox (or similar) then I could have a go. PM me if you want to keep any link private ;)

Intrigued!! Where? In .cfg file entries or in files/folders?

Hi Bert and Adam,

Thanks for your input.

I tried renaming the mods TEXTURE folders (which were Texture.1 Texture.2 Texture.3 etc) to Texture_1 Texture_2 Texture_3 etc) but it made no difference. Only my mod's texture.2 (or texture_2) loads).  All the other textures (ie different livery colours) do not load. Questions: Why is it not only loading just one of the textures but why is it not the first texture in my mod aircraft.cfg's list but the second one?

As either Texture.x is working as well as Texture_x for the one that loads, I suspect I need to edit the aircraft cfg file. Without a default FS2024 example aircraft cfg it's impossible to find out. THIS is the trouble with ASOBO not giving us a clear instruction and lays waste to their promise that FS2020 aircraft would work simply by pasting most of them into the community folder. Clearly that won't work without doing something else.

Can you or anyone else point me to an example FS2024 aircraft that has a viewable aircraft.cfg file or list of TEXTURE folders under the simobjects folder? Again I suspect not because everything is saved only on the cloud.

Adam, I have PMd you.

I am out of ideas... clearly this was a hunch that did not pay off..  Sorry! 🫢

Bert

I've found that many liveries for non-default 2020 aircraft work fine in 2024, all my attempts to add a livery to a *default* 2024 aircraft fails miserably.

I think we're supposed to use the "package builder" in Dev mode, but I can't find any clear instructions or tutorials on how to do that.

There are example aircraft projects in the SDK (the DA42, IIRC) - this might help?

Maybe so ... but no tutorials <?>.

Rob,

I know this is not of any help BUT! give us that DA-62 painted even in the default ASOBO paint - I just want to have a DA-62 that handles consistently, properly feathers props, etc... 🙂

Flying gliders since 1980

Flightsimming since 1992

AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

Don't you need to use livery.cfg for each additional livery rather than multiple entries in aircraft.cfg?

And how are you creating KTX2 files?

These are the SDK docs, this should at least give pointers (but I'm no aircraft developer myself)

This is an interesting page:

https://docs.flightsimulator.com/msfs2024/html/3_Models_And_Textures/Modeling/Aircraft/Airframe/Liveries/Static_Liveries.htm

There is reference to adding a fltsim.1 section for a livery, so I was wrong on the livery.cfg, that's probably just for stand-alone liveries.

It's all a lot more complicated than we are used to...I've done many liveries for FS20, up at fs.to, but I doubt I'll be doing many for FS24!

Yes but I really want to add all the liveries. There are 16 of them and I don't want all that work going down the drain.

I don't think so for ported over aircraft from FS2020. The file structure should be virtually the same as FS2020 and that was the whole point of Asobo setting up an import folder (named "Official2020") plus a community folder for placing the mods.
