December 15, 20241 yr I watched this video https://discord.com/channels/854119764766097449/856673697183957002/1317673933952253953 which gives a great description of the process for creating autogen to add to photoreal that doesn't already have it. Now I could follow those instructions to create autogen to go with for example this photoreal scenery https://discord.com/channels/854119764766097449/856673697183957002/1317675032884809739 but I wonder whether others have already done so? We see people creating scenery and sharing it, but I don't seem to be able to find sites where autogen for use with photoreal is shared. I grant that you can buy payware autogen! Apparently to create region specific autogen you need to research the types of tree and buildings present in the region, find GUIDs for models that are suitable and available in your simulator and then tell ScenProc to use those GUIDs when generating the autogen. It sounds a lot of work and maybe fun for some, but it seems a shame if everybody has to do it themselves! As an aside it seems a pity that all that work by MatthiasKNU generating region specific autogen has been lost forever simply because he and the majority of others have moved on to newer simulators. Just my musings. Does anybody else think along similar lines?
December 16, 20241 yr I never felt confident to create my own scenery so I just bought it. I agree whole heartedly referencing Matthias. His sceneries are nice and he is a great person.. In a lot of ways plain old ORBX global and Regions look better than photo scenery. The volcanos in Central America IMO look better in North America land class then the photo scenery I have of that area when bush flying smuggling bananas and coffee beans😁 Colors look more convincing. So I pretty much have something to enhance any place in the world I go in P3DV5 so I don’t fret much anymore about scenery. IThe main difference is if the man made structures are the real ones or not but if your using autogen in photo scenery they’re still artificial, no? So be happy my friend and enjoy life. Vic green
December 18, 20241 yr I tried this a few times myself with some success. I might give it a go again. If it works out, I'll post here and let you know where to get it. FTXDes: Project Open Scenery This photoreal doesn't have autogen and the developer is busy working on an airport for FS202X. From his comments in the pdf's that accompany the phtotreal I believe he would be happy to host any autogen produced to go with his photoreal offerings. Thanks.
December 21, 20241 yr So, I did a test run this morning using for KSAV area. I used OrthoXP and it's photo scenery then I took the autogen files and put them into megasceneryearth's Georgia texture folder and this is what I got. https://postimg.cc/FkfM1sf1 Intel I7 6700k @ 4ghz, nVidia 3070ti 8gb, 16 gb ddr4 @ 1066mhz, 500 ssd, 2tb hdd, 2tb ssd, ASUS z170-E mb, Samsung 24" @ 1920x1080, P3D 5.4, MSFS
December 21, 20241 yr Author Did you have to download all the imagery or were you able to generate just the autogen? I imagine downloading a country would be huge - especially if not needed for the FTXDes photoreal countries. Do you think you would research specific tree/building models for each country or go with a generic script. If generic script have you looked at Adam's script that he refers to in his autogen tutorial.
December 22, 20241 yr Using OrthoXP you have to download the photo scenery. It seems like scenproc uses that photo scenery to generate the autogen. It's not great. I'd give it a 70%. There are many areas where vegetation autogen was bare but placing buildings was pretty accurate. When I deselected build imagery I get nothing created. I used the script that I got from a tutorial here... Intel I7 6700k @ 4ghz, nVidia 3070ti 8gb, 16 gb ddr4 @ 1066mhz, 500 ssd, 2tb hdd, 2tb ssd, ASUS z170-E mb, Samsung 24" @ 1920x1080, P3D 5.4, MSFS
December 23, 20241 yr Author From memory in this video: Adam says you specify the area for the imagery and then start it running in OrthoXP. Then once the ScenProc definition files are created you cancel the OrthoXP process and use the definition files directly in ScenProc - avoiding the download of the imagery. But I haven't rewatched the video to confirm :)
December 23, 20241 yr I also now started using OrthoXP for P3D (to save some money...hehe) and it seems relatively straightforward! I can highly recommend it! 🙂 i9 14900K / Corsair Nautilus RS ARGB liquid CPU Cooler / MSI Z790 Tomahawk WiFi / 64GB Trident DDR5 RAM @ 7200 mhz / 24GB Gainward 3090 Geforce RTX / 2 TB SSD WD Black SN850X NVMe / 1 TB SSD Samsung 990 Pro series / 2 TB SSD Samsung 980 Pro Series / 500 gb and 250 gb SSD Samsung Evo 850 / RM1000W Corsair PSU - P3Dv5.4, X-Plane 12, X-Plane 11 and FSX
December 23, 20241 yr Author From what I can gather there is a range of increasing autogen quality: 1. Created using default scripts that come with ScenProc 2. Enhanced scripts designed to do a better job for the world at large (e.g. as created by YouTuber Adam YouTuber Adam J Pestridge - YouTube) 3. Region specific scripts where you identify tree and building models tailored to the region and specify use of those in the script 4. The autogen produced by Matthias! (A shame we can't get approval to share his work now he is retired) 5. Payware quality offerings like Orbx and VFR 3D that include custom POI models (e.g. Hawaii Aloha! - Hawaii Photoreal)
December 24, 20241 yr So I can get the OrthoXP for P3D to work quite well. The only thing I am not sure how to fix is the weird grey lines (in some cases it is water) that appear between the different tiles. The lines are quite narrow and stretches throughout the whole tile border (looks like it is maybe related to masking?) and it appears between all tiles and break the immersion. Any suggestions are much appreciated! i9 14900K / Corsair Nautilus RS ARGB liquid CPU Cooler / MSI Z790 Tomahawk WiFi / 64GB Trident DDR5 RAM @ 7200 mhz / 24GB Gainward 3090 Geforce RTX / 2 TB SSD WD Black SN850X NVMe / 1 TB SSD Samsung 990 Pro series / 2 TB SSD Samsung 980 Pro Series / 500 gb and 250 gb SSD Samsung Evo 850 / RM1000W Corsair PSU - P3Dv5.4, X-Plane 12, X-Plane 11 and FSX
