MSFS 2024 is a "...pretty..." mess

Featured Replies

The thing that gets me is that they said that the vast majority of 2020 addons would work in 2024. That wasn't true and was deceptive imo.

As Obi Wan, said "It's true.. from a certain point of view" I've had good success with moving airports from 2020 to 2024.

Everything else... not so much.

They just prefer to have a more relaxed and enjoyable experience when they have the opportunity.....and a solid and stable MSFS 2020 with lots of good quality addons provides that.

That’s fine, and I don’t disagree with you,  but it’s just funny to read all this praise of 2020 now as compared to when it launched.

Everyone (and I mean a few dozen people on AVSim, not the literal whole world) was convinced that MSFS 2020 was a joke and P3Dv5 and 6 would always be for “real simmers”.

That’s just how it goes. As a consumer, though, I feel super lucky that we have so many excellent sims and aircraft and scenery to choose from. It’s a great time to be into flight sim.

Maybe in three or four years, people will be  praising 2024.

As long as MS doesn't dump it because of the negativity.

You mean MORE people will be praising it?

I didn't suddenly dislike 2020 just because 2024 was released, but after a month using 2024 it is easy to see the advances in lighting, terrain and colours in 2024.

That might happen sooner than you think. Oh wait, it's already happening now, lol

Well, given that we are going to end up with three sims - MSFS/XP/DCS, and at some point the newer version will inevitably replace the older one, it doesnt' really matter. May take six months, may take a year, but at some point 2024 will replace 2020 as people and devs switch over.

P3D is a totally dead sim now, frozen in time with no real new development, and it's not likely that we're going to get an all new sim from some new company.

Good news is that 2020 is working and will work for some years, and XP has a strong niche carved out. So civilian flight sims are sorted. Don't know much about military sim, but I guess DCS is the big dog here and seems to be doing great.

And those things are nice. Unfortunately, they broke just about everything else in MSFS 2024.

FS2024 is famous long before its release and was definitely celebrated on November 19, 2024.

All the audiovisual marketing. The Grand Canyon moment. The opening of pre-orders...

The incredible and growing enthusiasm of the entire community, young and old, and to feel all this excitement around a single wish was a real joy for me. Reading their enthusiasm on social networks about the purchase of new equipment for this common event was very meaningful. Some even made the effort to take a day without pay to welcome the prodigy with open arms and with confidence in the greatest serenity.

We had their professionalism and their 5 years of experience still in our heads. We could never have thought that it would be so sad so quickly everywhere. No matter where we looked for information on the internet. The know-it-alls had even ended up... disappearing.

Like all of us, even the "generous donors "of 4 free planes to make us forget the unforgettable, will remember it.

Well I just went for three great flights... a group flight over the Grand Canyon in my A36 Bonanza, and two flights in my RV14A... over the city of London, and out of KMIA, up the Florida coast.  Absolutely stunning flights with no hiccups whatsoever.. 🙂

See what I just did?  🫢

This is a great point, and it is genuinely a great disappointment.

The interesting thing is that there ARE some complex addons that DO work well in v2024.

Makes me think there are a bunch of 3PD's out there who code things their way instead of the Right Way...

That's just the thing. Some people have it made and love it and some are having some issues. About a third of the time, I am having issues. RJ and Fenix do alright but still have issues with WASM-like bugs, or something turning off or not turning back on. Blurry textures out of nowhere. And a whole lot more. Then about 2/3 of the time.....its all good.

If I stick with the Comanche (with their fix) or the COWS DA42 then its alright. Complex airliners have been issues for me. I fly both. Does it look and perform better? Oh for certain. But I like to actually fly

For me. I am just back in 2020 until they can get it together.
