43GB consistent RAM usage with a peak of 46.  No wonder I was getting 1/2 second pauses.

This is really more of an informative post if you are considering using 2020 addons in 2024.  I'm not sure which addons make this happen but I ran both FlightBeam KMSP and Xwind KGRB on this flight.  Landing at KGRB was a stutter fest.  Asobo wasn't kidding when they recommended 64GB ram.

FWIW my RTX4080 is also vram saturated!

I really wanted to move to 2024 as quick as possible.  But now I find myself questioning if I ever will.  Guess we will see.

And you've got an even more powerful system than I!  I'm reallllly curious if 64GB RAM would help.  It would only be a money bandaid though... the real issue lies in (most likely) unoptimized addons from 2020 or an unoptimized 2024 base simulator.

I doubt MSFS 2024 needs nor uses all that main memory except for some scenery preloading and caching going on in the background for obvious reasons being a streaming app. I show already from 20 GB up to 32 GB in use without flying nowhere, just looking at the start load menu. I think they will just use up as much as available, but you shouldn't experience any lower fps at only 32 GB instead of 64 GB. if there are stutters, that would indicate a memory leak or insufficient unloading of non required data.

60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking.

very nice.

Yeah that's why I'm worried.  Why do we need an animated menu screen?

I wouldn't be too worried. I think their thinking might be: if that much free RAM is available, why not use it? which doesn't necessarily mean it is required or the sim would perform noticeably worse at "only" 32 GB. just my idea.

"Why do we need an animated menu screen?"

I guess because this is how modern games with their pretty user interfaces are designed, including background sounds etc. we are not in Linux/x-plane Kansas anymore and those animations don't cost 32 GB.

p.s. is there still another patch planned for this month?

What else is running (background or otherwise) ? Is MSFS2024 the ONLY program? Have you compared this to the usage you see/saw in MSFS2020?

SAR Pilot. Flight Sim'ing since the beginning.

I had similar RAM in use (40 GB) at that airport with the same aircraft with nothing else running in MSFS 2024. even with just the C152 I am showing 29 GB in use, with nothing else loaded and no traffic. that's why I think they are, while not 100% required,  still pre-loading as much data in the background as possible. those 40 GB in use are no indicator that MSFS 2024 "needs" all that 64 GB to perform properly.

I just use the dev mode FPS counter... with 2020 the peak was about 34GB or so.

It just means 32GB won't cut it with addons.  It's fine with default 2024 at max settings though.

we don't know that yet. as I speculated before, those 20 GB could be place holders/pre fetched scenery which wouldn't be loaded if there were other addons already loaded and taking up that amount. only users wit just 32 GB installed could really tell.

If even an otherwise empty simulator with nothing else loaded yet shows already 20 GB in use while in the main menu, it is pretty obvious that is not all RAM used up for scenery or code required to run the sim.

Well I know on my rig it wont.  The sim was stuttering badly (as expected).
