There's a lot great freeware, but right now I can remember this one - Chipmunk, find it here: http://www.classicbritishfiles.com/ And.... you got many repaints here at Avsim - just type "Chipmunk" and you'll see.... ;) This is my favorite : http://library.avsim.net/sendfile.php?Loca...&ImageID=191892 http://library.avsim.net/sendfile.php?Loca...&ImageID=191893It looks sooo.....real ! ___________________________________

Barry, With the string of changes since introduction of FSX (SP1a, SP2!!!in particular), Vista, and the SP1 Vista package it's pretty hard to find a freeware airplane that plays smoothly as downloaded. The developers just can't keep up! However, if you have the patience and experience to make some minor changes, there are some that are very worthwhile.I use FSX SP1a/SP2 and Vista Home Premium/SP1 with a wide screen display and have downloaded, installed, and then discarded about 2 dozen airplanes, but have retained the following:1. The C177rg, by Brett Henderson (a model of a real airplane he flew)2. bd18fsx.zip, ( An excellent Beech D18 that also downloads under another similar file name).3. cessna30.zip, which is a remake of the C-182 to run in FSX.4. warrior.zip, (Obviously a Piper Warrior-great panel)I am relying on memory here, but I think the c177rg and warrior ran fine as downloaded, but the other two require finding and loading guage fixes, VC prop fixes (after SP2), etc.Even though the airplanes may be designated as FSX compatible, a common problem is that a whole series of gauge errors appears on loading due to the change in gauge technique that came along with FSX. In most cases, you are shown the option to just hit "cancel all errors", and the airplane loads and works fine from the start-up screen. However, if you don't use the ACES tool and correct the discrepancies, you will often get crashes if you try to switch to that airplane within the sim.By the way, I don't use the term "Payware Quality" anymore, because I am not sure what it means at the present time. I have had numerous problems with the only payware program I have purchased for FSX. It is a commonly used developers program, and is only about 50% functional on my computer even after the free "Vista Update".All this should gradually go away since (hopefully) the last major changes affecting FSX are now in.Regards,Thrakete
