They will still be trying to fix 2024.

and people will still be paying to beta test it.

so, no change there then

  • Stil using MSFS 2020 : because Prosim and  Wideview are not MSFS 2024 compatible. But : reading all issues I am happy that I did not switch yet…

  • Becoming a beta tester wasn't in my plans, so I stayed with 2020.

  • From now on, let's all only post on subjects that interest me. Thank you for your cooperation.

I'm sticking with MSFS2020 until the bugs in MSFS2024 are worked out.  And I'm staying with MSFS2020 until PMDG can port their products over to MSFS2024.  I'm thinking that sometime next summer might be the time to switch.

I'm a VR guy.  I tried 2024.  With the bugs, performance, lack of my favorite planes and no backward compatibility for them from 2020, I gave up.  Someone said I had to uninstall and reinstall.  So, I uninstalled it and never re-installed.  I can't see why I'd struggle with controls, stutters, crashes, etc. for ??  I have to turn it down so much, it doesn't look really any better than 2020.      So, other than a sense of accomplishment at getting this disaster to run, what do I get at the end?  Limited planes?  Nicer sky colors?  Rocks and twigs with 4k textures?  Career mode that I won't use?  Better clouds for sure, but is that it?

I think they've given up on VR.  Time will tell.  If they make any progress on that, maybe I'll dl it and try again.  Best guess, and only if they choose to spend the money, it'll be better in a year.

It's an Xbox game, the move to streaming is all about getting the added content to run on that potato.  Then throw in a low-priority PC port and unmodified VR code.

Either that, or it was written for a 7090 graphics card.  Like every FS version since 4.0, when launched, it'll run well on my next PC.

AMD 7950x3d, MSI 4090 Supreme Liquid, 64GB@6000 CL30, MSI X670E ACE, 4TB Crucial T700 nvme, MSI AIO, Asus 43" HDR1000, Quest Pro, VKB gunfighter, Bravo throttle, TPR, IBM Model M keyboard, Shure SM58

I predict MSFS 2020 will win by a mile. 😀

Until 2024 is optimized and stable + all my add-ons are updated and working, I will remain with 2020.

I do enjoy following the progress since this forum has become the MSFS 2024 forum.

I downloaded 2024 - or tried to - on release day.  It was terrible.  Blurries everywhere.

So in my mind, instead of contacting Microsoft/Asobo in a rage demanding a refund, I moved it to the 'WIP' folder (and planned to check in on it over the coming months as patches were released) - and went back to 2020 for a few weeks.

However, a few weeks ago, I followed the advice and deleted/re-installed 2024 and the difference was immeasurable.

I now fly exclusively in 2024 and haven't touched 2020 since.  I personally can't go back.

Yes, there are a LOT of things I like still unavailable for 2024 and yes there are still numerous bugs that need to be sorted - but overall stability has improved greatly since the patches.

I'm looking forward to seeing how 2024 develops!

Cheers, Calum

It was stable and optimized until the last update, now they need to issue a patch to fix the broken performance & optimization. That's what I read here on the MSFS 2024 forum.

What comes to mind, is anyone beta testing the patches they are coming out with, before they are released. If not, seems they may be creating as many problems as they are solving.

You mean : MSFS 2030 stutters on your pc. Perhaps a clean install solves it. According to MS/Asobo the hardware specs for MSFS 2024 are higher than for MSFS 2024zx

Not sure if you're being sarcastic with the years here. If so, please look two posts down from my original post, and you'll find the correction of my typo.

Regarding a clean install: I've done that. It stutters, with nothing added to the Community folder, in a Cessna 172. Maybe I'll try again in 6 months' time, but for now, MSFS 2020 is fine for me (when they're not limiting the server bandwidth).

No, what you meant to say was: "I meant to say: MSFS 2024 stutters on a my PC with a 7800X3D and a 4090. MSFS 2020 does not."

Neither MSFS 2024 or MSFS stutters on my PC.

What is this 'stutter' you speak of?

Was super excited for MSFS2024 but after the initial horror show and the ongoing major issues being highlighted by the YouTube brigade, staying with 2020. It just runs so well. Everything works. Never crashes. Runways are always there when you land on them.

I predict that a year from now, majority of flight simmers will be back on 2020 with MSFS2024 relegated to “Windows Me” status, used only by gamers wanting the career stuff and looking at pebbles in the river.

Rocks and twigs with 4k textures?

Rather than cherry pick those two things, why not state they are as a result of a 4,000 percent increase in terrain resolution?  This increase results in much more improvement than rocks and twigs.  Only today, another small patch was released that has resulted in a smoother and higher fps for many.

I have absolute understanding why somebody would stay with 2020 if their setup and use doesn't currently fit well with 2024, but I do cringe when I see a comment like yours.

In the first sentence, You do make valid points from your perspective, even if they are WAY overstated.  However, I can't see anybody making a wager on your second paragraph - I would feel safer betting on the existence a chocolate teapot orbiting the sun.
