just shows steam. I believe more players are on microsoft store with msfs 2024, unless someone can show otherwise.

Maybe, maybe not. Usually the burden of proof is on the one who makes a statement. But even in that case there is an important difference between the two stores: all the players who have the Steam version have purchased the game, while Store users can use both sims for free if they already have a Game Pass.

The data on 30th November shows that a huge number of MSFS users purchased FS24: there were the same number of players online for the two games despite one was released 4.5 years before and the other just 11 days before! The graph above also shows that after 30th November players are returning to MSFS even if they bought FS24, and the spread has increased during the month of December despite the patches.

This, along with the enormous quantity of complaints on the official forums, is proof of the general disappointment of the userbase for this new FS release.

  • Stil using MSFS 2020 : because Prosim and  Wideview are not MSFS 2024 compatible. But : reading all issues I am happy that I did not switch yet…

  • Becoming a beta tester wasn't in my plans, so I stayed with 2020.

The idea of streaming data is good and contemporary. But it relies on a perfect infrastructur. Which isn't available for most users.
It's not only the Microsoft servers and it's not only your service provider. It is also the routing in between. Networking is a complicated thing.
So there are (also) issues, which are outside of the sphere, MS is able to influence.
Despite of that, there are still bugs and unfinished elements with 2024. But right now it isn't always easy to say, if it is a networking issue or a simple (local) bug.
In medium term, MS has to bring more data back to the local storage of the user, to reduce the amount of streaming data and solve at least one of the problems. So everybody can focus on the 'real' bugs.
Maybe, some time in the future, a full blown streaming simulator (the often praised 'thin client') will be possible. But at this moment, it's too early for that. MS was enthusiastic (which is likable 🙂) but overshot.

Yeah they've run before they could walk with this title and the fact they were/are willing to A) Increase options to download items for users (which essentially makes it almost like MSFS2020 in the first place) and B) Continually supporting MSFS2020 alongside suggests they had little faith in their own abilities/server structures to make this thing work as good as they could from the outset. The rushed release, no beta period, no preview copies etc it all points to an acceptance that they knew they were releasing a half-baked product.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing and of course they needed a cash injection, but the more I see of MSFS24 the more I'm convinced it could've largely been a DLC for MSFS2020, whilst they slowly introduced more streaming capabilities in the background as they worked into the future. As it stands it's one giant mess and they're having to continually support an older title, which make sense considering the state of MSFS24 but it's very rarely seen if you look at other gaming franchises.

But hey what's done is done, they've had the Xmas break to hopefully get a proper plan together on how to tackle the mess they've created, it's up to them to now push forward and prove that in 2025 this new Sim is the future of Flight Simulation.

They announced that they would continue supporting MSFS2020 long before they released 2024. So you are wildly speculating on something that was already announced. It was too keep up on their promise of 10 years support, not because they knew 2024 would fail (for some people)…If they hadnt continued the support, they would been lynched by the communety mob…..

I think all the changes and new tech brought in to the new sim really made a new release neccesary, they had to get paid to do all these changes, wich are pretty big…

They never promised ten year support, that was taken out of context from what Jorg initially quoted, he explained this in a Q&A once.

Ok master, they continued 2020 because they knew 2024 would fail, because MarcG said it, its a fact. End of discussion, have to make myself a tinfoil hat now and join the «hate 2024 cult»

I doubt that is possible, given the fact so much has changed under the hood to make it a sim relying mainly on streaming data. At least that is what understood, that it would be impossible to go this route with the MSFS 2020 architecture. I agree other improvements could have been DLC, which would have had to be paid DLC to keep supporting the franchise.

Wasn't the statement they had the intention to keep the franchise alive for at least a decade, not MSFS 2020 specifically?

Yeah that's why I think with hindsight they could've coded the streaming architecture further down the line and DLC'ed the rest, instead they threw everything and the kitchen sink at it and we are where we are now with a largely busted release.

Like I said what's done is done.

Im curious what problems people really have with 2024, been flying since release now pretty much flawlessly. Im genuinely curious what are the gamebreaking issues?? What is the problem really. Im flying 2024 just as fine as I do 2020, im really scratching my head on this one…

I have 32g of ram. The game is a complete stutter fest where my system is at 96% memory utilization as opposed to 60% with 2020.

I’d throw ram at the problem, but it also feels like the Christmas patch made things worse for me. Also, until we get more 3rd party planes moved over I am hesitant to throw money at the problem,

The ini planes have been hit or miss. I had what felt like a WASM crash in the a321 over the weekend where the FCP, MCDU, etc. became inoperable.

Ok, I have 32 gb ram too and run in VR and its not a stutterfest, go figure. Well I guess that could be called gamebreaking, feel sorry for you.

Many, including me, are having the opposite experience. With similar settings I used in 2020, my RAM usage in 2024 in VR exceeds my physical installed RAM (32G). Clearly this is an issue but why should I have to compromise appearance to run 2024 satisfactorily?

I feel you, maybe Im not exceding my ram because my computer is old trash so I run with pretty low settings:p Thats probably why Im not having any issues.

Have Asobo acknowledged this issue or are we left in the dark? If so, yeah, I can understand why y’all are angry.

I will hold of upgrading my computer for now, so I dont run into this issue when pushing my settings. Thanks for the enlightenment:)

I’ve had situations where the sim has used up such a large portion of my 64GB that everything on Windows get sluggish. I’ve also had all 24GB of VRAM in use, resulting in stutters. Clearly there’s something very weird happening.
