FSX CAN ONLY GET BETTER

Recommended Posts

I've been with flightsim since the monochrome monitor days and have always found enjoyment in the sim. I love airplanes and the excitment of flying. I just retired last year as an ATSS (Air Traffic System Specialist) at the Miami Center. I installed, maintained and certified equipment used by Air Traffic controllers and interacted with them daily. Just before I retired and moved back to Texas, I started assembling my latest system for FSX - specs below.I was so disappointed with all the problems with Vista 64 & FSX because I could never before now, get things working correctly regardless and was considering giving up the hobby. I don't even remember how many thousands of dollars I have spent on a program that cost less than a hundred.I have discovered in my trials, configuring, and tweaking that FSX could only get better because I don't believe that it can get any worse. I have come to the conclusion that FSX is hardware and operating system sensitive seriously. It either works fantastically for you or just the opposite. I have discovered that it must be a million things that can prevent it from running great. I think it could also be marketed as computer diagnostic program, pusing your system to the limits. I have ran memtest on my system more than twenty fours hours and did not uncover any errors however when running FSX, there were memory problems. In my specs below, I made a switch of memory which corrected FSX tremendously. I could never make a flight from KSEA to RPLL (Manila) without something going wrond after 10 or more hours of flight.I am now overjoyed since I installed SP1 for Vista Ultimate 64. Don't know why, but since I installed this service pack, FSX runs beautifully. I see this Service pack makes FSX worse for some, no difference for others but for me, it made all the difference. And now, I can start enjoying flightsim again.WilbertAbit AW9D-MaxThermaltake W0106 700W PSUIntel QX6700 QuadcoreVista Ultimate 644x1G Ballistix Tracer (PC2 8500) - Changed to 2Gx2|CORSAIRS TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX2x150GB SATA WD Raptor - Non Raid2x320GB SATA WD SE16 - Non Raid2x IDE Light-On DVDRW 165H65BFG 8800GTX OC2 768MB 626MHz Core ClockX-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Professional Series3x SILENX 120X25MM FANS + 2x 10in XCLIO Wind Tunnel Case FansDanger Den Water CoolingEnermax temp/fan controller

Thanks for posting your success story. Always good to hear. As I understand it, sp1 is mostly updates that have been already released. I have always kept my vista updated, and FSX has always run OK. There were three new somethings in SP1 that I did not have. Can't say yet if my sim runs any different.Bob

Glad to hear everything is running good for you.I ran out and purchased FSX on release installed it, fiddled for 1/2 an hour and put it in the closet. For christmas I spent $2300 on a self made rig, installed FSX as soon as I got it up and running and have been in awe ever since. Guess I was lucky, I went with Vista 64 also, and I havent had an issue with it yet. Everything has been working perfect and Im in flightsim heaven :-)

I am using SP2 AccelerationPack, ASX, UTX, GEX, FEX and MyTraffic X but not DX10 because of the disappearing taxiway lines and reduced FPS.WilbertAbit AW9D-MaxThermaltake W0106 700W PSUIntel QX6700 QuadcoreVista Ultimate 644x1G Ballistix Tracer (PC2 8500) - Changed to 2Gx2|CORSAIRS TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX2x150GB SATA WD Raptor - Non Raid2x320GB SATA WD SE16 - Non Raid2x IDE Light-On DVDRW 165H65BFG 8800GTX OC2 768MB 626MHz Core ClockX-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Professional Series3x SILENX 120X25MM FANS + 2x 10in XCLIO Wind Tunnel Case FansDanger Den Water CoolingEnermax temp/fan controller
