  • I’m not sure if FSLABS is using legacy mode for it’s flight model. The legacy mode flight model check box should really be removed from the UI, it causes much confusion and seems to have been inc

  • I understood legacy was the old FSX flight model, a lot less parameters, that would allow old aircraft from the FSX days to use the sim. FS Labs is the first aircraft I have heard uses the legacy mode

  • Like.. all of them.  Even if you set it to legacy there’s a multitude of addons that force it to modern.

My head, my head. 🤣 So is there a preferred method in ~24?  Legacy or Modern, Modern or Legacy or is it irrelevant?

See above Ron. It's not a good thing to fly "modern" flight modelled sim aircraft with "legacy" switched on, and the same goes the other way round. If the aircraft was designed with the legacy system then it's better to fly it with the legacy system switched on. And vice versa.

...So you didn't read a word I said!!!

I think he did read your words, but you are deeply wrong.

Missing the PMDG DC6 in MSFS 2024 (she's here, but...).

🍿 I am ready when you are, Robert

Robert and others might be talking past each other.. I'm assuming what Farlis, Claudius_ etc are saying is that if the user sets the in-sim option to use legacy FM then a lot of aircraft that don't use the legacy mode will get all wonky, as expected. What Robert is saying that is that a lot of the same things can be achieved whether the aircraft FM itself is constructed via the legacy methods or newer methods.

On a side note, there's also the CFD aspect (https://docs.flightsimulator.com/msfs2024/html/2_DevMode/SimObject_Editor/Debug/Debug_Aircraft_CFD.htm?rhhlterm=cfd&rhsearch=cfd) which is optional to the "base" modern FM, AFAIK.. so with MSFS it's like there are three ways to do FMs in-sim: legacy, modern, modern + CFD. In any case, various tools and methods for aircraft devs to choose from.

Well done. I was about to change that. I'll leave it on a bit longer. 😎

Something just occurred to me. How do you get to find out which planes use which flight models?

They all use ‘modern’. Don’t change it and no need to worry about it.

Most devs will (or should) tell you which method they used so which one to enable. It's quite rare for anyone to use Legacy so the vast majority of addons or mods use modern.

Thank you Robert and everyone for what was a helpful discussion; I understand much better now.

MSFS 2024. Primary Planes: Black Square TBM850, Duke, Baron, Caravan; A2A Comanche; FSReborn Phenom; Fexix A321; PMDG 737-7, 777: Utilities: Active Sky (Passive Mode); BATC, FSLTL.

Have to say, I never considered that any addon aircraft might be using Legacy and have always left the sim set to use modern

Im not convinced that any addon devs would use Legacy 🫤

(ok now I consider it, maybe Captain sim or MS Scenery, but its not like I'll ever be buying that stuff)
