BATC recently caught my eye and I have a few questions that I was hoping one can answer.  It looks pretty interesting but I am not sure about a few things:

1) I thought early on i saw that you can readback your ATC transmissions like I would in real life / Vatsim.  However, on some Youtube clips i have seen recently, it looks like readback transmissions appear to be AI.  Is that true or am I able to readback with my voice and have it recognized?

2) I currently use PSXT with Real Traffic.  Is it safe to say that would not work with BATC as BATC would have no way of controlling that AI Traffic?  Or can you use PSFT/RT and have BATC only control my flight?

3) As someone who either only flies on Vatsim or no ATC, how does BATC rate against Vatsim in terms of realism?

4) Does it use real world frequencies?  Is there ATC that it doesn't simulate?

5)  Can you have the ATC play through a headset and not through the PC speakers that my aircraft plays sound?

6) Can a push to talk button be programmed on hardware (sidestick for example)?

1) You can read back. Most people use the dialog buttons. They are releasing next year a LLM feature.

2) BATC injects its own traffic. I I have it use the FSLTL models and I don't know what other livery sources it uses. However, you cannot inject your own traffic into the sim and have BATC control it.

3) This is going to be highly subjective. Vatsim with a good controller is going to beat any form of AI. What I find is it's great for no coverage areas (or a busy area like LAX and only Center is on). You also don't have any of the Vatsim issues with other pilots.

My usage of Vatsim plummeted once BATC got traffic.

What is LLM feature? I think I would prefer to readback as if I am talking to a person.  To me that would feel more realistic.  Why do people chose to do the dialog button?

You can either use the Traffic injector with BATC where they will also directly control the AI traffic or you can still use PSXT but BATC obviously will not control that at all.  I use both (not at the same time!) since I don't use ATC on every flight but to be honest, using just the BATC Traffic injector is pretty nice since you don't have as much goofy behavior as PSXT (planes appearing/disappearing out of thin air and spinning in circles, etc).

The LLM feature adds more of an AI model to the mix while still keeping a bit of rigidity to the situation.  In other words, you can be more casual in the way you speak to ATC. Looking forward to that feature, otherwise it works really well as it is for airline style flying.

Frequencies are real-world but if you don't have the charts, you can get them from the BATC interface.  It has a nice auto-tune feature that I use all the time so it will always get you to the next handoff frequency without fiddling too much.

LLM is Large Language Model which is what ChatGPT and Say Intentions use.

I use the dialog button for a few reasons. The main one is BATC is still a very scripted event. It will probably tell you if you did a read back incorrect, but when you reply it is looking for what it said read back. And, I just spend all day with a headset on and don't want to use it at night.

For example "Clipper 123, cleared flight level 330" and it would expect to hear back "Cleared flight level 330, Clipper 123".

What it can't handle is "It's a little bit of a bumpy ride. Can we do flight level 350 instead?" I think you still have to use the dialog buttons to initiate a level change, but I'm not sure. I haven't tried it in a while.

Next year, when it does have more of a true AI it may handle these things better.

4) Yes, as per navdata installed and/or scenery installed. It does not simulate stuff like CTAF or Unicom.

5) Yes, windows volume mixer should be able to achieve that

6) Yes, I've got mine on my Throttle

I love to fly on Vatsim, but it's either *full* (of noobs) or empty most of the times. BATC does a good job of simulating the things you do on Vatsim and gives immersive voices, plus it gives 100% coverage of the world with correct liveries etc.
Vatsim is always superior because of the live dynamics and the human component (e.g. someone messing it up in front of you and you have to go around...), but it's really not either or: I use Vatsim when there's ATC online and BATC for the rest of it. You can switch back and forth between them on any given flight multiple times without problems.

How long has it been since you last used PSXT? I haven't seen a spinning airplane in about a year.

I keep it updated regularly...I don't see the spinning as much but had one doing it on my last flight.  It's probably more the sudden appearing of aircraft right in front of me on takeoff/taxi, etc.  Have never found a way to reduce that...

I think that comes from poor coverage. Many airports simply don't require transponder on during ground ops. PSXT certainly isn't perfect, but it's still far better than I've seen from any other option.

I agree, I do enjoy it and will continue to use it when not using ATC!  I especially like seeing the airlines at proper gates.

Yes it’s very worth it especially since it’s perfectly functional at the $30 one time payment price. You don’t need to buy the premium voices if you don’t want, and it doesn’t really make it worse. Everything works great and it is very immersive.

I mostly talk to ATC in a very normal and natural way and it picks it up perfectly 99% of the time. What I can’t do is have random conversations such as “Is there a tourist attraction nearby” and expect an answer. As long as you stick to ATC comms, it does a great job at making sense of your voice.

Im really enjoying it and looking forward to the LLM feature which then will allow me to ask random questions. This is also fully free and coming soon to the base pack. No extra cost! That’s really cool in my book.
