what types of aviation jobs are there?

I'm 41 and I've been designing roof trusses for the past 10 yrs of my life and I really don't like it that much, its ok, but its not something i really look forward to doing. It would be nice to wake up some day and actually look forward to go to work. I love aviation but don't know what type of work I could get into and make fairly descent money...I know that the following are OUT:pilot, dispatcher, ATC controller, baggage, etc what appeals to me is scheduling type of thing. I would love to work for a charter company scheduling clients etc, what other type of work is there? I'm good with a computer.thanksciao!Brian S

What airport do you want to work at? I was fortunate enough that my hometown is a major city so the minute I turned 18 I got a great job at KLAS working for a ground handling company for some major international airlines, among them JAL, Air Canada, some of the other airlines we handled were Air Transat, Skyservice, and many more, our larger domestic was Hawaiian, back when they used DC10's. I was a gate agent myself, I drove the jetway and filled out all of the aircrafts paperwork and customs paperwork, and loved it. Of course we had dispatchers, aircraft cleaners, and ramp guys. I loved it, but now I'm in the Air Force, flying on the E-3 making a bit more cash, but I started out at 10 bucks an hour at the airport with no high school diploma.Jeff

If you like scheduling get your dispatchers license which I believe is still found in ASA's Airline Transport Pilot written test prep. That sound like something you would like.

I feel the same way- My job pays great, but rarely get excited to be there- maybe a few times a year when I get to open a new office or make a major change to the network.I intend to become an instructor and teach on weekends- I will probably never switch careers, but I think that would be really enjoyableHave you thought of that? That way you don't have to make a switch, rather just pick up a very satisfying 2nd job.

thats interesting, never thought of a p/t 2nd job, don't know what i could really do though in the evenings and on weekends.. but .. something to think aboutciao!Brian S
