In my previous post, when I flew my favorite, the Baby Boeing 736, in MSFS2024, I had mixed feelings and experiences about how this a/c SIM performed in the new SIM. The PMDG 736 is one SIM airliner that, in MSFS2020, had previously (always) performed flawlessly in my Xbox system. From the first "go" to my last flight with it in MSFS2020, it had never given me the slightest cause to worry. In fact, when I had flown it the first time in MSFS2020, back on November 18, 2023 (Oh boy...1 year and 1 month have already passed but it feels like just yesterday...๐Ÿ™‚.... whenย you're having fun...), I'd titled my post, "Cannot believe I am flying the PMDG 737 on "Xbox"...".

That's because, at that time, even in my farthest mind, I didn't think that such a complex airliner (especially from a premier developer), developed entirely within the bounds of the software limitations and architecture of the MSFS system, would (or could) fly meaningfully for me in the Xbox. I also recall this a/c was the first (complex) 3rd party airliner available in the Marketplace, marked by that dual logo of both "PC" and "Xbox" (which I am always pleased to see...๐Ÿ™‚...) ...It was indeed an amazing first feat of development, testing, and rendition of a complex airliner, for MSFS/Xbox, in my opinion. Since then, there have been many other a/c (and airliners) of equal caliber...available in the Marketplace for both PC and Xbox ...

However, in MSFS2024, though the 736 flew well enough for me, it showed a few (bothersome) imperfections, as I'd mentioned in my previous post, that I haven't yet fully figured out why. It alsoย made me wonder a bit what has changed here for the 736...besides, of course, the new framework and architecture of MSFS2024 (compared to MSFS2020) and the novel "Streamed in" paradigm of the latest SIM. Oh well...we'll see how it all moves forward...in MSFS2024...where, for now, for my purpose, most of my (current) airliners, are performing at least as well, if not better, than what I'd experienced in MSFS2020...

So, after the "Baby Boeing" of my previous post, in this post, here, in MSFS2024 for the first time, I go back to the "Baby Bus", a less complex rendition in the SIM, of the Airbus A318 which is the smallest variant of the Airbus A320 family, and a perennial favorite of mine since the earliest times in this hobby...

For some of us, surely, these will ring a bell ๐Ÿ™‚... (I checked on the Aerosoft website just now):

  1. Airbus A318/A319 - FSX/FSX:SE/P3D V3 [โ‚ฌ35.57]
  2. Aerosoft A318/A319 - Professional P3D V4.5/V5.2 [โ‚ฌ50.41]

Do you notice how "FSX" has/had been conveniently omitted in the Professional version of the A318/319...?ย I had then clearly seen the writing on the wall, and the fact that the (glorious) days of FSX, along with my ~20 years of engagement in it, was numbered and coming to an end. I must have shed a tear or two of sorrow...๐Ÿ™‚...that my favorite baby bus "A318" failed to qualify to be elevated to the "Professional" grade...you know, how, we, yours truly included, sometimes, get rather extremely involved and intimately passionate about this hobby...๐Ÿ™‚...Anyway, that twin SIM (A318/319 - non-professional version), had proved adequate enough for this non-professional aviator...๐Ÿ™‚..., and was indeed a source of great deal of fun, as I recall...

So, here we go, as I fly the (LVFR) A318 in MSFS2024 for the first time (BTW, all the LVFR a/c such as the A340, A330, A318, A319 etc. fly perfectly in MSFS2024 for me, just as they were flying in MSFS2020, and do fill some gaps in my fascination with these aircraft in our virtual world...though I'm always looking for better versions of these a/c, such as the iniBuilds A330 that has now appeared in MSFS2024 and flying well for me in Xbox...).ย

For this post, I am travelling on a short tour across the southwestern-most coast of the continent of Africa, over a distance of about ~400 miles, from the city of "Gqeberha"... flying westward to Cape Town. On my trip today, at the Pilot's discretion...๐Ÿ™‚..., after lift-off rom Gqeberha Airport (FAPE), and soon after reaching my (sightseeing) cruise altitude of ~8,000 ft., I've disabled the managed (lateral) mode of navigation on the MCP and simply headed a bit north towards the (interior) mountains that exist between Gqeberha and Cape Town. There are actually multiple mountain ranges en-route...not very high but beautiful and magnificent in their own rights...with characteristic ridgelines and jagged edges... (see a couple of images) ...

While Pretoria is South Africa's "administrative" capital, Cape Town is the "legislative" capital. The city itself is most picturesquely located on the coastline, on a peninsula beneath the Table Mountain. I've landed on ILS Runway 19 of Cape Town Airport (FACT).

It was a nice and fun flight today, exploring a region, that I do not recall flying much in the SIM. For Cape Town Airport, Gaya Simulations has provided a reasonable scenery rendition (see my final few screenshots), that I've specifically enabled (aka Streamed in) from my MSFS2024 library.

Hope you enjoy this collection of pictures of the lovable baby bus, here, flying near (and along) the southernmost edge of the vast continent of Africa...to the city of Cape Town...

Thanks for viewing...!

And importantly have fun with whatever SIM you're currently flying...from FS9 to FS2024, and all things in between ...๐Ÿ™‚...!

Cape Town...always one of my favorite places to fly in every sim. You've got it looking good here.

Thanks, John. Yes, Cape Town looks fine here due to GAYA's hand-crafted airport scenery...Though, I wish the flight route scenery was also good, but it looked blurred (and washed) out in my setup. I flew over Table Mountain but didn't take any pictures...We badly need a dedicated World Update for Africa...Cheers...!
