Skyparks....what a life!

I was reading the local paper today and there was a great article in the Real Estate section about Rosamond Skypark, "a tidy little subdivision on the edge of the Mojave Desert where single-family homes are adjacent to hangers, and airplane noise isn't considered a nuisance". It seems this California Skypark offers a great way to live for the many Corporate chiefs and professionals and "empty nesters" who like to commute by air to L.A. The article talks about John Travolta, who lives with his Gulfstream II and Boeing 707 at an exclusive airpark in Florida that includes a country club and inn and the nation's longest private residential runway at 7550 feet.I would love to live in a Skypark. It seems like the residents have so much in common, and what a feeling to be able to get into your plane....right by your house, and fly away, only to return by air right to your house.Does Travolta's skypark and runway exist in FSX? If you know, please tell me the location. I'd love to fly there.

Stan-I just visited a few in October-Mountain Air in Burnsville, NC. and Heaven's Landing in Clayton, GA. By the way Heaven's landing is where Chuck Yeager had an incident with an airplane a few years ago-as you can see as I turned crosswind it is a tricky airport to get to! Wow that is sweet, but being student pilot with 35 hours, just thinking about the crosswinds and gusts that place must get is making my hands sweat!Travolta is a nut! I've heard he makes all his crew wear uniforms.There are some nice airparks in CT. My brother has visited a guy who lives on one a few times (The guy is an A&P so he does some maintenance work on our friend's Maule). I don't know the name of it. The guy is a corporate helicopter pilot for one of the big insurance companies- He flies his plane to Bradley (He has 2 planes, and ultralight and a Robinson R22) and then gets the corporate helicopter and goes and picks up the execs in Hartford. Talk about a great commute!

Geofa,You never cease to amaze me. Someday I want to shake your hand. Those skyparks look absolutely amazing. What an appropriate name: Heaven's Landing!No....I didn't start my pilot training yet. It's too friggin cold here in Allentown, and I'm looking at snow coming down now...we're supposed to get another 7".My certificate is good until December...I'll eat up that $1000.00 piece of paper really fast when I get started...soon.

Yeah-the snow/ice bit is going on here too-and I loose all my enthusiasm to go preheat/shovel /freeze/fly. Funny when I was a student pilot I could never figure out why my instructor wasn't as excited as I going out in winter. More scary than the xwinds was the fact that you could barely see the runway on final-and little margin for error. Excuses, Excuses! :)It's no worse in Allentown than New Haven!Ok, so I get to pre-flight in a massive corporate hangar with 150 foot long propane heaters. I don't even have to prime!I can't wait to hear your stories. Yes- you will eat up that $1000 FAST. You only live once though- and figure if you don't mess around and try to fly at least 2 hours a week, you should solo in 14-18 hours which means you could solo by spring if you start now!

Unfortunately some in the Dallas area which were founded 30-40 years ago are now being surrounded by new homes and will probably be forced to close their runways in a very few years for "safety" of the surrounding homes.
