December 30, 20241 yr Just that, an EXCLAMATION of SATISFACTION !!! I finally got back the "feel of flight" and the weather effects and rendering, scenery and smoothness I wanted to experience. I can still experiment some quirks, yes, like some stutters that I never experience in FS 2024, but heck, the colours, the lighting, specially at dusk / nigh / dawn are so good and true to real, and the "feel of flight" so 2nd to no other sim, that I am about to enter 2025 as happy and overwhelmed as I didn't expect I would, flight simulation wise, just a month ago... XP12 is in a different league !!! 😍 Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
December 30, 20241 yr Glad to hear that you are enjoying XP as much as I do 🙂 And there are many many other things to come. i9 12900k, RTX 3090, 32GB RAM
December 30, 20241 yr Author Indeed, not New but only yesterday did I find teh time to watch and listen too the full: Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
December 30, 20241 yr I installed 2024 yesterday and I don't understand so much fuss with the graphics. The area where I live looks terrible, LEMU/LEAL. The photogrammetry is ok but the color of the buildings look melted, the giant trees give an unreal look to the whole area and the AI glitches in the S exit of LEMU transforms greenhouses into Arabian micro bazaars. I understand that there are very nice areas in 2024 very well kept and there 2024 has no rival but most of the planet unfortunately is not like that, I have made some flight through South America and it is still as horrible as 2020. I have X-plane with ortho4xp for Europe (Here Maps -30 color saturation), Simheaven and Map enhacement for the rest of the world. The XP lighting looks much more natural to me than 2024 and the overall result looks very good for how I use the simulator.

To be honest I don't understand the hype for it neither...I also have it (2024) but wasn't able to use it for more than 20 minutes before rage-quitting, because of all limitations compared to XP. And talking about PG: I am working with photogrammetry for digital twins and it's not supposed to be used in such a dynamic way like a flight sim that already need a lot of ressources. And we can clearly see its limitations. I always switched it off since we can see it build up in front of you, what ruins the whole immersion. It's a nice feature (to attract the XBox kiddies) if someone wants to do a helicopter flight above a city because then you shouldn't see it melting and poppin in or any other of the strange effects. I was planning to use 2024 for bush-flying because for that it could be great with all the details of the ground and I will have to spend a bit more time with it. But it's so hard to enjoy it when we are used to XP (with Autoortho)... i9 12900k, RTX 3090, 32GB RAM
December 30, 20241 yr I am minority here 😀. I disabled Simheaven, Ortho, xEnviro, reShade, and every graphics enhancements. I am planning to enjoy vanilla X-Plane for 30 days. It is day 10 today so far I am loving it. It is a different experience. December 30, 20241 yr Author And I just came home and installed yet another purchase, probably my last of 2024 - Traffic Global !!! Wow! Just loaded my Tolis 32N at LPPT, with xEnviro pumping the weather, SimHeaven doing it's Magic and AutoOrtho creating even more "ambiance" and I'm better than ever at a stable 30 FPS ! Using default ATC is good enough for me. Yes it is not aware of the Traffic Global traffic, but heck... I can't have it all in the same day 🙂 Edited December 30, 20241 yr by jcomm Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
December 30, 20241 yr This is a path sometimes I like a lot, less is more. Fly the CitationX with no mods, no mods for anything, jsut plain X-Plane 12 as it is. It is like this term our fellow simmer here coined: to detox of sims, in this case to detox of too many addons and mods! Alexander Colka

December 30, 20241 yr Subject "AutoOrtho"... I do not understand the fact people praising AutoOrtho everytime (@Franz007: Sorry😉). I have tried it two times, and everytime I switched back to the X-plane native + Simheaven scenery immediately. When using AutoOrtho the terrain is much to blurry. I rather have sharp non-photo textures than blurry photo textures. Moreover at an area around Hannover (Germany) I have got always a mesh error. This error was already present, when I made a scenery with Ortho4XP. But at Ortho4XP I can use the LiDAR Terrain Model for the mesh and so the mesh error is not present anymore. If I want to fly with photo real textures I prefer Ortho4XP for the departure and arrival airport region in any case. In my opinion X-Plane looks really great with the native textures in combination with Simheaven. Patric

For me the AO-textures do look very good and at FL330 it's night & day compared to default XP's textures. YOu can also set the minimum resolution you want to have streamed. I would never bother to install all the Ortho4XP-tiles when I'm having almost the same result with AO. Simheaven is good but also something I would only need for low flights and since I am flying almost only airliners and it tanked my performance, I removed it. But to say native ground textures look great...hmm I seriously wouldn't say that in general. Only in some mountainous areas they look quite ok. But that is only my opinion. i9 12900k, RTX 3090, 32GB RAM

I would rather have new high quality ground textures for X-Plane 12. But if I could have AO at ZL18 everywhere, I think I would like this tool.😉 Patric
December 30, 20241 yr @jcomm - I'm happy to hear you are getting closer to Flight Sim Nirvana! As an XP12 rookie, I am slowly discovering just how darn good it is. Mind you, this is only with default scenery, combined ActiveSky and XP12 weather, Zibo Mod 738, Toliss A321, and Better Pushback, at present. I have flown a couple of GA flights in the C172 and one KMIA-KATL in the Zibo 738, and the scenery looks sooo much better from both low level flight and FL320+. Definitely prefer this over my P3Dv5.4 with Orbx Global Base and numerous addon airport sceneries. I would love to try out AutoOrtho, XEnviro and SimHeaven, but fear they may push my meager pc into stutterville. I'm normally getting between 30-50 fps until heavy cloud coverage starts bringing it down to 27 fps. I do believe at this point, I will create a new flight sim pc stash to save up for a new system that will handle everything XP-12 + Addons/Plugins can throw at it. This is so much better than cloud based simming. Just my $0.02, of course.
