3d experience now in vista-heads up...

Recommended Posts

I just got back from S. California where one of things I did was take a trip to Disneyland with the grand kid. Saw the 3d show bugs life/honey shrunk kids etc. which are amazing with 3d things flying at you with a .50 cent pair of 3d glasses and I immediately thought about a pair of 3d glasses for $20 or so I had bought for fs last year about this time.Unfortunately I had traded up to Vista by the time the glasses came-and found that Vista had no support for 3d. They set on the shelf collecting dust this year...nicely built and good price but useless.I came home on the red eye this morning/last night-after 11 days away from home starting checking drivers/program updates which of course always occur while you are out of town.I saw with astonishment that nvidia has released beta 3d drivers for vista available from the nvidia site!Downloaded and tried-still a little rough on the edges (beta)-but this has similar potential to expand the fs world in the same way tracker ir has imho! After looking at the fex clouds in 3d (flicker free) the effect is amazing. Taking a 2d screen and making it 3d without sickening flicker for about $20 US or less is amazing! I had bought some lcd 3d hardware glasses years ago that gave you vertigo/sickness and a little of this for 10 times the price at low resolution-but the cheap glasses available now do a flicker free job with the same effect!Anyway a heads up for Vista users-check it out. I can't find the company I bought mine from (New Zealand I think) a year ago but if you google anaglyph glasses you may pull up quite a few options.Anyway-thought it was worth a heads up. Seeing a 3d view instead of 2d-especially if your monitor is big just has a big potential of another area of increased reality!http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/1b5baf...b9f427f694g.jpgMy blog:http://geofageofa.spaces.live.com/

There's another way to get a 3D image from a couple of 2D ones which you may not have thought of, and without glasses of any sort. You have two images side by side each taken from a slightly different position to enable the stereoscopic perception, then you simply cross your eyes so that the two images are superimposed! simple eh?With a bit of practice there's no eyestrain and the effect is just as 3 dimensionalMike.

Geof, you got my interest piqued! I used to have a pair of old 3-D glasses that I tried with the old ATP program, but that system never really worked out sartisfactorilly. I believe that they had a Red and Green lenses (I can't locate them, so I don't really remember)I have found some clip on glasses athttp://www.berezin.com/3D/3dglasses.htmThey are available in RED/BLUE or RED/CYAN. do you know what dfference that makes and what color lenses do you have?BTW these clip-ons are only $8.95 the postage is a little high, but they still work out to under $20.Pete S.

OK, thanks.Could you please give me a link to the nVidia 3D drivers?I rummaged through their site, but didn't find this beta. I assume that the Viper glasses you have are nothing special, or are they the kind that need to be connected to something to work?Pete S.

On the nvidia site:http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d_stereo.htmlYou can get them here :http://downloads.guru3d.com/Yes-the viper glasses are just glasses-nothing to connect. I did have the connect version years ago but the low resolution and flickering made them a no go for me.http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/1b5baf...b9f427f694g.jpgMy blog:http://geofageofa.spaces.live.com/

Thanks Geof,I think I'll look for my old ATP glasses.I guess the glasses I found earlier online should work as well.In any case I will order some and give them a try. Clip-ons should work better since I wear prescription glasses. Thanks again, for the heads up and your help.Pete S.

So does this turn your FSX screen into a moving Anaglyph, the red and green shifted images? This sounds interesting. I have always been fascinated with stereo 3D images. I still have a bunch of stereo cameras , viewers, and projectors gathering dust and somewhere a pair of Anaglyph glasses. I didn't realize they had video drivers that could convert normal games to Anaglyph. Can you turn the driver on and off or do all full screen games and maybe even videos automatically show the Anaglyph effect? Does it hurt the FPS?

You have lots of settings in the driver-a few picts shows all the options you can do.I am just starting playing with it so I can't answer everything yet but it is pretty cool-and all you need are a cheap pair of glasses! :-)http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/1b5baf...b9f427f694g.jpgMy blog:http://geofageofa.spaces.live.com/http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/187006.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/187007.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/187008.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/187009.jpg
