On the fence rgdg FF 777 v2 ...

Featured Replies

Should I?

I own the PMDG 777 200 LR for P3D (simulator that I no longer use, and unless P3D v6 shows signs of "life" will most probably never use again...) and FS 2020.

I expect at least the same level of detail in terms of systems modeling of the PMDG for fs 2020.

I don't know if I will ever upgrade the PMDG 777 to FS 2024 - depends on their price policy... If it's a $10 upgrade, ok, otherwise... Nope, and FS 2020 is past to me since FS 2024 offers me all of what FS 2020 did and even more (sorry for talking about the other sim here, but makes part of my reasoning 🙂 ).

I did have FF 777 v1, and I couldn't use it as much as I did try 😕  It was a big deception, and only the FF 757 Pro which I won from a .Org gift contest made me change my mind about their skills. I was once tempted to buy their 767 too.

I have the FF A320, but I don't use it.

So, from you guys who own the FF 777 v2, what can you say to help me with my decision? Should I jump?

The budget is now short, and my other option would be the X-Aviation TBM 900, not because i like that particular class of aircraft but because of the surely detailed modeling.

I would say it that way: apart from a very few basic-things that are still missing (winds being taken into account in the FMC and ALTN-pages) and some small bugs, it is simply the best airliner ever simulated in any sim and goes one step further than the PMDG. The amount of details and systems are insane. Ramzzess has done a type-rating on the B777 and is aiming for a fully simulated plane that allows a full pilot-training (without it being certified as far as I know). And the quality of textures are probably the best we have in XP, so are the sounds. However it is still in beta because of the few mentionned missing features that should be added « soon ».

Here you can see a demonstration from Q8-Pilot who also thinks that it is the best ever simulated B777: https://youtu.be/eH-kAs60gdU?t=4271 (you have to watch the following few minutes).

If you are on point A-B normal flight, go ahead.

If you try to do any failure drill on it, it's a no-go for now, the ECL is really not up to task, rendering any interaction with any of it's 1000+ failures unrealistic and unpleasant.

On this front PMDG did much better job in P3D (not try MSFS version though).

It's still beta, so things might change. but not now.

Prime example of pay to beta hype rubbish.

here we are MONTHS later, and no real update and the same old excuses of a devs being ill or the wife being sick.

Ive seen this been played over and over again with numerous pay to beta products over the years 15.  People never learn

I believe it is still in Beta at present, so there will hopefully be more improvements and bug resolutions coming.  Time will tell.

Happy New Year, wishing you all a safe, healthy and prosperous 2025!

Seriously? That’s interesting to know, I haven’t checked any failures for now but know that they have implemented those checklists according to Boeing standard procedures. So they must have imported them from a kind of existing list published by Boeing. Did they mix up something? Do you have some examples and have you brought it up with the devs?

I have it in the hangar, my advice as a prudent person is to wait for the final version. If it delivers what it promises it will be one of the best add-ons for any simulator, but that has to come.

Glenn with the greatest respect,

You gave your money to a dev that abandoned the 320, then charged for a down a dirty quick xp12 port over,

The very same dev, who also abandoned the A350, which also wasnt very good.

You couldnt get a better example of buyer beware with pay to beta then Flight Factor.

I see, and respect your perspective @fluffyflops, and have been very skeptic too, although the 757 pro turned out to be a positive surprise.

I would like to give them the benefit of doubt...

But I've been there with the first 777 and the 320 too...

Yes.

With all of what that aircraft has to offer and some of the things it can do now, with CPDLC support with Sayintention support along with Vatsim, you should have hours of things to explore more than what those who own version 1 could ever dream of.

One thing that impress me was the failure system with the checklist step by step FCOM built into the system to follow like engine out, engine fires procedures just the name a few and the fact that they are still not done, leaves far more to look forward to.

I will repeat it again and again but: they haven't abandonned it. They are simply better at modelling Boeing than Airbus. And indeed there has been a problem with the FF320 because the main developpper left and they needed a very long time before updating it as promised initially. But that has been done long ago now. Others haven't been "abandonned" either; their whole 757/767-fleer have been ported to XP12. And they are simply pretty old and it makes more sense to develop a brand new version like they did with the 777. The same will happen with the A350. Do you seriously expect form a dev to update a plane endlessely and implementing all new features duringf 10+ years for the price of the initial addon that never promised that much features?

I would be very interested to know for what the reason you have purchased it and won't fly it? I have never seen any airliner-addon with that many features at release. I cannot believe that you won't fly it simply because it has a few bugs that are still being ironed out (like in absolutely every addon even those not being in beta). The amount of stuff that addon has is insane and most of the reviews were exceptionnally positive (some of them from real Boieng pilots). I simply don't get it for what kind of reason you spend money on a fantastic addon and don't fly it...

Believe me, the new v2 is a few dimensions above both of them. Have you watched soem reviews? And btw. their first 777 was like 15 years ago and for X-Plane's standards it has put every other addon in the shadow. I have enjoyed it during many years. In fact it was the second "deeper" simulation of an airliner after the CRJ200. One of the innovations (we wouldn't believe it nowadays) being that they had fully 3D-modelled cockpits that changed from the flat 2D ones we had befpore that 🙂But both are completely ridiculous from a nowaday's perspective of course. Nevertheless they were topnotch 15 years ago. It looks like some of you purchased that older addon only recently, that's why you must have been disappointed?

The main issue is no proper latch and inhibit function, for example, if you have engine fire, you do the mem item out of memory, the fire and the warning on EICAS is gone, but by press CHKL button it should latch and show the FIRE ENG x checklist, and inhibit other checklists like engine shutdown, low oil pressure, generator fail etc..

However in FFv2, once you done the mem item, Fire checklist is gone, you press the CHKL button, it shows you a list of like 4~5 checklists which should all be inhibited, and not even in the same order as cautions shown on EICAS.

I have reported in their club few versions back, haven't seen them been changed in changelog so not tested for newest version.
