MSFS 2024, flying off California coast line, it's amazing!

It is a blurry mess but you can always pretend the mess is not  there. An easy solution is to look downwards, not into the distance.

Maybe on your system, I have yet to see blurry scenery at any distance. I flew around Manhattan last night, and even in the low overcast skies everything at a distance was visible and sharp. Using TLOD at 200. Maybe you need to recheck your system/sim settings. Start with default settings and work your way from there.

On the subject of enjoying a bit of low and slow I’ve just spotted this.

My system is not failing, though it’s four years old. The blurry issue has always been there, even when my system was new it was visible. Let’s just say… the texture resolution is poor from a distance instead of calling it blurry. I still fly but you won’t hear me say MSFS is amazing because it is not. Maybe my standards are too high and I am less tolerant of these issues.

But lets say your right,,,what simulator exist that deliver the kind of graphics you want? I would be intrested for sure. While I wait I will enjoy what is currently the best out there,,,until you lead me on the right path…

Did you try cranking the TLOD up? Obviously not always possible as it hammers the CPU. But since TLOD controls terrain texture draw distance…

Of course it’s better than what’s out there but it’s far from amazing. It looks just ok but a lot to fix still.

If I can set TLOD to 250 with my PC, then just about anyone should be able to do it.

I actually reinstalled it and reversed back to my old driver. I also got rid of the Nvidia freestyle color preset and opted for the new Nvidia Color Dynamic option. Some improvements, but it’ll never be perfect.  My TLOD is set to 280 and my system handles it well.

Okay, so what you want doesnt exist. Maybe you can make something better then,,, since the talent at Asobo sucks, in your eyes. I will wait for the wonderful Huascar Flightsim 2099 when it comes out with chrystal clear horizon never seen before, gonna be great. When can you start coding, want it NOW…

Relax, this is a forum designed to express diverse opinions. Keep in mind I am not criticizing you personally. I am merely highlighting the deficiencies of the game.

You opinion has nothing to do with diversity and has everything to do with common sense! LOL

I seem to remember that you don't really care about the whole aircraft/cockpit/flying experience of MSFS. Well, the cheapest option is probably Google Earth/Bing Maps/Apple Maps. You can zoom in and out, tilt up and down, and check out photogrammetry buildings without any performance hit whatsoever. Great for discovering the world!

IIRC, Google has an actual flight simulator embedded in Google Earth. Nothing spectacular but it is "flyable" and the scenery is excellent, of course.

Plenty of long sandy beaches to land on too.

Mostly far too soft unless you're rockin' big fattie tundra tires 😉

I was flying around in the MilViz T-38C over P3D + TrueEarth SoCal just last night.

The graphics are simply atrocious no matter where you look. The sim is a great COCKPIT simulator, but everything else about it is utterly surpassed by the new versions.

You can probably tweak your graphics settings.

I tried an OLOD of 1000 and the object popping was exactly the same

Changing TLOD and/or OLOD makes no difference to the popping of objects, and in fact doesn't seem to have much effect at all in 2024. I am sitting with both at 400 and it all still pops like crazy (and the general visual draw distance is pretty poor).

I also just did my own low and slow up the Californian coast, from Hearst Castle up to Big Sur, and I can state quite definitely that it's not just the statics at the airports that do this popping. Yes, the cliff faces are massively improved over 2020, but those improvements also pop into existence only fairly close up. Ditto the fancy ground surfaces. I went to put the Savage down in what looked like a plain grassy patch of land and as I approached, it filled up with bushes/shrubs/gorse and would have crashed me out if I didn't fly with all damage turned off. I could see as I was moving along the surface that the vegetation was popping up just maybe 100 yards ahead of me and completely changing the surface textures. Once I stopped I stepped out of the plane and went walkies and the same effect was occuring even at walking speeds, and possible even closer distances. Well within what would be actual visual range in real life.

My system runs at 4k off a 3090Ti and is mostly at ultra settings, plus the higher LODs as described. My frame rate is "capped" to my monitor refresh rate, so 60 fps, but I typically run at a fairly smooth 30 - 35 fps normally (and was doing so here). I still have my full 2020 system installed and running (totally separated/sandboxed from my 2024 system) and I do not get these issues in 2020.

This is not me joining the "2024 is rubbish" crew. Far from it, for this sort of flight / exploration it is totally amazing. But it does not work as described. The original post video looks good (but does not give any indication of resolution or settings?) and I would say that my own flight this afternoon looks even better to my eyes, and some of the static exploration I did was mind boggling - I suggest if anyone knows the place, go take a look at Hearst Castle (San Simeon) in 2024. It's obviously a modelled POI and is totally stunning - I must have grabbed about 50 screenies.

But the LOD handling and all the popping is very, very, seriously flawed. I absolutely love 2024, and am sure it will become my only sim once they sort just a few things out, but it really is damaged goods in its current condition.

Won't stop me using it and raving about it, but consider my perspective as "tough love" <grin>
