It's simple actually.  It upgraded both the software and the "hardware" simultaneously.

I still get PTSD from a prior life when senior management at a high-tech startup proclaimed that we do a 'revolutionary' marketing blockbuster upgrade on a move to new state-of-the art location data center after 6 months of preparation. The upgrade included:

1. Upgrading a mission critical application
2. Upgrading the servers
3. Upgrading the OS two versions to "catch-up"

Result: we were on non-stop conference call with Oracle, Novell, Compaq, and the app dev team tech support for at least 40 hours the entire 3-day weekend.  One tech support person fell asleep and snored during the call. No one ever found out who it was since there were at least 5-6 people on the call all the time and people were joining and leaving the call as appropriate. There were major hiccups of course, but it went ok after a week or two. The start-up ended up being merged with a Fortune 10 company after a year or two because of its new-to-the-market business model.

In comparison, I think the MSFS 2024 upgrade was more complicated since the consumer based customer base was the entire world (whereas the start-up's customer base were just a few dozen large banks whose professional staff had their expectations managed by the start-up).

Hardware: i7-8700k, GTX 1070-ti, 32GB ram, NVMe/SSD drives with lots of free space.
Software: latest Windows 10 Pro, P3Dv4.5+, FSX Steam, and lots of addons (100+ mostly Orbx stuff).

Their mistake was releasing a Alpha State program, that they knew was faulty, because they wanted the cash flow. period.

This reminds me of FSX. The hardware to run it hasn't been invented yet.

too much change all at once, so what was learned and fixed for mfs2020 got lost and it's back to bug fixing all over again.  should've kept more of the same underlying sw framework, including the gui (just add gui wrapper for console users) and provided an option for not going full-on thin client model for pc users.  i would've paid the same for a simple upgrade of the visuals/rendering and bolting on the career mode to mfs2020.  and even going to a subscription model if steady revenue stream is what's needed to make flight simulation a commercially viable for ms.  mfs2024 so far: instability/ctd, vr performance=bad.

They scored another goal as Asobo has done in the past.

“Weather for us is a Big Deal. It is something we are heavily, heavily investing in. I think with Meteoblue we have a great partner. Late this year you will get this first Update [remark: SU7], we’re planning on another which will be really awesome when it happens. It will probably be in 2022, it could be as late as 2023. Weather is one of those things. It’s where planes live, it’s got to be awesome. We will get it as good as you can get it. That is really the goal”.

Active Sky is my only weather, FS24 weather is not good apart from the nice visual and permanent fog....

Yeah but they never improved anything for weather on 2020 other then visual improvements. Typical Asobo and their false promises!

Sí, pero nunca mejoraron nada para el clima en 2020, salvo las mejoras visuales. ¡Típico de Asobo y sus falsas promesas!

in 2024, from the complaints I read, Asobo hasn't made a great live weather representation either.

This is the answer right here. This was released unfinished, full stop.

Numbers don't lie and without XBox and MS Store data to compare, these numbers in a vacuum would be quite disturbing...

Well that shuts down the people only post or review when they are unhappy and conflicts with the they are too busy happily playing argument...  Lots of Happy People reviews there LOL...

The other one that is scary to see is peak player numbers.  The damage done by the release issues are probably larger in scope than a lot of people here realize.  Peak player #'s for 2020 were like 61,000 I believe.  FS2020 whereas 2024 barely surpassed 10,000 whereas if the launch was successful I would garner that number would be over 100,000

Yeah, after weeks of on/off again attempts to 2024 I am gonna leave it be for a while and keep flying with 2020. Or not fly at all. It is just so frustrating. Today, I tried 2024 again this week just to find half of mouse, keyboard and honeycomb setup disappeared. Looked at all the profiles to no avail.

Yeah, pretty much. I would say more of a early release beta haha

I mean, I am happy for the people who have little-to-no issues with the 2024 sim but it seems like some of us have problems often more than not. I have reinstalled 2024 at least 5 times to get it to work. No mods, no addons, etc. Right now its in a default state again. Still, issues.

This is my biggest gripe with everything: any developer, car manufacturer, motorcycle gear, woodworking tools, etc etc. Do NOT add features until the basic product functions perfectly first. Early release is early release: there is usually a disclaimer. This is why I am ok with FSS EJets. Love them for what they are. Why I loved FlySimWare's 414 when it was early release. Both are really good. Again, disclaimer.

For 2024, they made it seems like everything would work. Not having your marketplace addons didn't change much for most of us. But not having the actual sim work default, without bugs? Nah. They missed that mark.

Exactly, they wanted the holiday dollars and they weren't ready for release.

And I am accused of heresy for pointing out all the flaws with both sims. My settings get changed all the time, and the network is hopelessly mediocre. Only time will tell how 2024 will fair.

I am open-minded, and I love surprises.
