I don't remember where I read this...whether it was on this forum or on the MSFS forum, but I can't find it.  I read today that if I changed a few settings, my flights would be smoother and MSFS 2024 would be so much better.  I did that and I can't believe how much more enjoyable MSFS is after I changed these 2 things:

  • I turned OFF DYNAMIC settings
  • I increased my Cache to 150 from the 16 that was the default.

After I did that, I SWEAR my flights were smoother and so far, stutter free, and my airplane's movement is so fluid.

Again, I would love to thank the people that recommended those 2 changes, but I can't find the threads that talked about it.  I believe it had to do with Photogrammetry.  I think even that seems better (although I could be believing it to be so).  More testing to come, but so far, I'm enjoying MSFS more than yesterday.

I made the cache increase when I first installed 2024. I believe the original default was 100GB. I increased my setting to 1000GB's and you're right all runs smooth and no studders.

Thanks for this tip, just changed cache from 32G to 150G, what a difference, had the smothest flight for weeks. was under the impression that 32G was the limit. But apparently not, wish Asbo would explain

more and help get this 2024 running well.

The default is 16 GB. 1 TB committed??? So much for the thin client...

@OP, the dynamic setting is what probably caused stuttering, changing TLOD dynamically as you flew. Also, if you change two parameters at a time, how can you tell which does what?

Those two setting certainly make a difference. 1TB is definitely overkill though. A couple of hundred is enough. And yes, the default is 16.

Dynamic is designed to do what MSFS AutoFPS does, except, it doesn't do it anywhere near as well as AutoFPS

It would be turning off the Dynamic setting that would smooth out your flight as that will vary your settings to maintain FPS.  Makes sense to increase the rolling cache above 16Gb.

The biggest one is TLOD.  150 in MSFS2024 looks like 200 in MSFS2020.  The lower you set this, the better your performance will be.

Personally I use max 150 and min 50 in AutoFPS which also turns off the pretty useless dynamic setting in the sim.  Specs are in my signature.

I am currently using a 32GB rolling cache but may now experiment with some  higher settings.

I noticed a big difference when I changed mine from 32GB to 128GB and turned off dynamic settings.

I also found Frame Gen made a big difference to smoothness.

Yeap, It works! First good thing I've had to say about 2024. I'll try Autofps with 2024,. It's a game changing program in 2020.

BTW I was flying around North west LA and there where generic aircraft flying water bomber patterns.

1000 GB works or me especially in dense areas. Plus, I have plenty of space

A cache by definition only makes sense if you fly constantly in the same area, because it will have to download/stream the scenery anyway the first time you fly there.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

This might be correct if we could have any trust in its current implementation.

Whatever helps is more than appreciated.

I did both some time back and had positive results.

Heads up this will be wiped out after any sim update spent an hour making 200 gig cache - pia

Thanks for info
