New Version of Lossless Scaling

Featured Replies

Nice to see such results here.

But the issue the screen keeps freezing in certain situations when VRAM gets overloaded cannot be solved actually, right ?

In practise the minimum base of 30 fps seems to be a bit of a myth for me at least. I can run the sim at 20 fps and either double or treble that rate with lossless scaling and it still works absolutel

  • I switched it on today in the PMDG 777, at KATL, my FPS was around 24 at the airport, and with it on I got around 45 fps, and smooth.

Hello all, I made a lossless settings guide over at the XP12 forums if anyone wants to look at it, I know its aimed at XP12 but  the settings within lossless scaling should apply to MSFS as well, just

Only with more VRAM 🙂

On another note, I am currently researching Ultra low latency mode (ULLM) which may not actually be required.

Apparently It reduces frame consistency. Enable it only if the game you play is not bottlenecked by your cpu or you will stutter a lot.

Normal Low latency is perfectly usable for most games if you aren't cpu limited.

So, it seems it could be beneficial for flightsims. I will do further research.

Ultra Low Latency Mode limits how many frames can be queued up to be rendered by the GPU. This of course, can reduce performance, especially if you are CPU limited.

If you are not CPU-limited, and not GPU-limited, then you will not see any impact to performance with Ultra low latency mode.

I will report back after I have tested.

Try the new settings, let me know how you get on, I'll see if I can figure out what causes your freezes.

Last night, I followed your tutorial and was really surprised at how well Lossless works at 4x. I recently got a 1440p monitor that lets me switch between 144, 120, and 60Hz. So far, I've been sticking to 60Hz because due perfomance and Vram limitation, my 3070 only gives me about 30fps (with the help of Reset XPDR's Auto FPS). I thought 3x and 4x wouldn’t work that well. But like I said, last night I bumped the refresh rate up to 120 and set Lossless to 4x while keeping the 30 frames, and the results were amazing.

Until now, I had Vsync (now disabled, following your advice) and capped at 30fps in the Nvidia control panel. Is there any advantage using RTSS instead? And lastly, I don’t quite get why it’s recommended to leave a bit of headroom by capping at 27 or 28 frames instead of 30. Wouldn’t that risk losing refresh rate and cause stuttering and glitches?

RTSS is a CPU-level FPS limiter, which is the closest an external method can get to the engine-level of an in-game limiter.

Because if you hit the refresh rate, V-Sync can kick in, which causes input lag, which is what you need to reduce when using frame generation:-

When your FPS exceeds your refresh rate, new frames can start rendering before the previous ones are fully displayed, causing visual tearing on the screen. Locking below the refresh rate prevents this issue by ensuring each frame is fully rendered before the next one is drawn. By capping the FPS slightly below the refresh rate, your system has a small buffer to finish rendering a frame before the next refresh cycle starts, leading to lower input latency and a more responsive feel. Even if your FPS occasionally dips below the cap, it's less noticeable when it's consistently lower than the refresh rate, resulting in a smoother visual experience overall.

This is probably because you perceived the difference between a 60hz display and a 120hz display. Less eye strain for starters. Images display on the screen twice as frequently, resulting in significantly smoother motion, less noticeable motion blur, and a more responsive experience

Forgot to metion: the main reason is because I use TrackIr and it's very noticeable the difference when paning around.

Yes that’s because track IR polls at 120hz so needs higher hz to function without juddering.

hi @Ianrivaldosmith, one thing I’ve noticed about LS and no one else has mentioned is the brightening of the gauges a few seconds after I’ve stopped moving the mouse. I thought it was connected to the Sharpening option but it’s set to the lowest setting.

As soon as I move the mouse they go dimmer. It’s very strange and I can’t work out if it’s my install or a general feature.

Strange, I haven't noticed this. But I do run it in HDR mode, do you? Check what you have that set to.

Although this is the MSFS forum I'm running P3Dv5.3HF2. I've just checked and HDR Lighting is enabled. I wonder if this is connected to my sim rather than LS.

I've enabled HDR Support in LS but it makes no difference.

Try this:-

Go to: C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Local\Lossless Scaling
and delete the Settings.xml.

Then re-setup lossless settings and see if the problem still persists.

Thanks. I'm in the middle of a longish flight but will do as you suggest and report back.
