Hi folks. Recently I installed AutoFPS in my MSFS2024 system. Then I started seeing mention of both Dynamic LOD and Lossless Scaling.

Would someone be willing to take the time to explain the difference between these products?

Do you only need one product? Do more than one run together and give you some advantage?

Thanks all .............. Rob

Good question, Rob.  Wish I had the answer, too.

I have been using Lossless scaling as a frame generator because, unlike you and your 4090,  I can't use Nvidia's native FG as I'm still rolling with my 1080ti @60hz.  It's made a world of difference in smoothness as I can easily obtain 30FPS with my cpu.

The AutoFps app and Dynamic LOD in FS24 are essentially the same - modifying settings on the fly for a better FPS.  Only use 1 and I have read that the freeware app is producing better results than the offering from Asobo (go figure )

So the way I understand,  the Frame generators are more for the GPU where the AutoFPs is for aimed at the cpu side of things.

Maybe the good Captain @Cpt_Piett  will stop by and help explain.  He's very knowledgeable about such voodoo'ery.

I'm interested in finding out more about using LS as a FG. I still use my Titan X and I'm always looking for a few more fps and smoothness. Can this ap help add a few fps?

AutoFPs is an amazing ap. I love how the user can set the ap to automatically control TLOD at different altitudes. I's perfect for flying into busy cities and airports.

I just took a look at the video bellow and it reminded me of why I did not embrace LS initially. I was affraid of artifacts.

I think that’s a great explanation. I don’t use lossless scaling (using nvidia FG). AutoFPS can be as simple or complicated as one wants. The dev is happy to answer questions, and there’s a very comprehensive readme. Latest release version 0.4.4.2 is here: https://github.com/ResetXPDR/MSFS_AutoFPS/releases

I don't use either one of those apps and very happy with my performance running 2024. I'm not interested in chasing frame rates only smooth and sharp simming

GTX 980Ti without FG or lossless scaling in MSFS 2020. They don't call my Asus motherboard a HERO for nothing

I also don't use either. Great products if you need them I'm sure and I would be first in the queue but I honestly don't need them. There is always a danger I think that when things like this come out everyone rushes to install them and then the common wisdom in these forums is that they are necessary in order to 'do MSFS properly'. And then people just install them by default without even knowing what they do. It's nuts.

Lossless and Frame Generation are specifically for smooth simming, not for chasing frames...

Whatever.... I'm not into magic potions to make simming smooth, but if that your cup of tea, who am I to say otherwise. I'm a believer if you setup your hardware correctly magic apps are not needed.

Spoken like someone who has no idea what the application is or does.  So you don't "believe" in Frame Generation?   Do you believe in VRR or GSync?

It's not a "magic potion" at all, it's fairly advanced AI rendering technology but ok, if it's your cup of team to dismiss things you know nothing about who am I to say otherwise...

I know more about what it is than you think. But like I said I don't use. I don't fly in vr

It's not for VR, in fact It doesn't work in VR...   It does make me question how much you "really" know about it though.

If you don't use it why are you even in in a thread about the products being discussed?  To tell everyone who is using them otherwise?

Not sure if you're talking about lossless scaling here, AutoFPS - or both. In terms of the latter, it's a great app IMO that manages TLOD (and other parameters) to maintain a set FPS - and it does it better than the default dynamic setting. For me it's invaluable and I use it on every flight.
