I was just thinking out loud this morning.  Since MSFS 2024 doesn't really take up any significant hard drive space, and we are so DEPENDENT on our online health at the moment we fly this new sim, wouldn't it make sense to just re-install MSFS 2020 back onto our original drive where we probably now have 2024?  It seems to me that we would be able to still have loads of flying fun when MSFS 2024 is being used by thousands of simmers on holidays, weekends, and all other times when we notice a distinct slowdown in performance (I sure have, at times).  The original worry that we would need more space on our hard drives if we kept both sims, appears to be unfounded!

I notice real slowdowns on most weekends and holidays.  Although I do enjoy MSFS 2024, I see no real reason not to have MSFS 2020 there as well.

What do you think?  Am I missing something that refutes this thinking?

"Should we all put 2020 back on hard drive?"

no need to. I still have 2020, but haven't touched it since November 19th 2024. and have no intentions to.

I never took it off since 2024 takes so little room.

Use 2020 90 % of the time.

Just starting to test drive 2024 now that some addons are working better.

Mine was binned in November. It's in the same mental 'drawer' as FSX, FS9, FS2004 etc etc back to Psion Flight Simulator for my ZX81. All great in their time and fondly remembered but, history.

I never uninstalled mine but I haven't had the need to use it since my airports came back to life.

As soon as I get lonely for my PMDG I'll jump back in.

I have no intention of going back to 2020. It's running fine for me. My only gripe is the fact that so many of my 2020 airliners aren't compatible with it but I get flamed and called a troll for saying so.

I have not yet uninstalled 2020 and do not intend to do so until I am convinced that 2024 is out of beta.  I am getting to the point that I think I will probably have to go back as I can use ultra everything in 2020 but even high settings seem to much in 2024 (which looks pretty awful in medium settings by comparison).

Never removed it and still flying it when I get frustrated. Did not fly much during the Christmas season.  When I did I kept running into issues.  Finally on New Years Day I ran into issues, quit, loaded and flew with FS2020 without any issues.  2024 continues to lose track of some. but not all my custom camera views.  At first I believed it was losing my yoke switch bindings.  Spent way to much time investigating and fixing instead of flying.  Gave up and went back to what works. 2020. I enjoy this activity. I am serious about it.  I wish to fly, not spend my time in problem resolution.

I am still lacking a handful of addon aircraft I enjoy in 2020.

Fuel burn is amiss in the Hjet in 2024 only.  It is perfect in 2020.

Two often used payware airports drag 2024 performance down significantly.  Both are fine in 2020.

I am frequently experiencing the flight loading stall. Where after selecting airport and gate, and clicking Start Flight, the simulator soars to above the airport......  and then just stalls.  Never zooms to the airport.  Cannot return to Main Menu.  Have to close 2024 via Task Manager.  Next time I try, it might or might not start the flight properly.

Note: I reboot my system before each flight.  Always.  Started that in my  FSX days.  It is part of my pre-flight procedure.

MS2024 traffic is horribly hit or miss.  Mostly miss.

My custom liveries tail numbers do not work in MS2024. What I get are Asobo's random generated tail numbers.

MS2024 is showing me multiple instances of some aircraft models with some of my liveries showing with one, and other liveries with the other.

I am trying to love MS2024, but there is still much not to love.  Right now I fly with both.  Its sort of like in real life flying two different Barons.  One that has proven reliable, and the other presenting headaches from time to time.  Not going to part with the reliable Baron....  Got to get to my planned destination, on time.

I can see some will benefit from having both sims installed. Personally I just use 2024 and am very happy with it.  When I see videos or screenshots of 2020, the upgraded lighting in 2024 becomes obvious.

I never removed 2020, as i fully expected issue after going through the 2020 stress test. At the moment i'm 80% 2024, and use 2020 when i get the urge to fly the 777, and 777F, and Ify Max8

I’ve still got 2020 installed, but only use 2024 as I don’t have any major issues. I’ll probably keep 2020 for a while in order to install addons that aren’t officially compatible with 2024 yet. E.g. yesterday I installed the piston Duke.

Never removed it (MSFS2020) and did two flights with it over the weekend with the 777F and FenixA321 and was very satisfied. 2024 will be used only for occasional VFR sightseeing until major issues are ironed out.

I uninstalled MSFS 2020 beginning of last summer, am now flying MSFS 2024 exclusively.  Best sim ever. Some bugs, but nothing game-breaking for me.  Much better performance and visuals, a free flight planner with Lido charts, new planes, new avionics. I'm definitely getting my money's worth.
