Is there anyone using this monitor? If so, what are your thoughts?

I thought about it for a while. It was very expensive, but in the end it was the weight of the thing that killed it for me; it would have been too heavy for me to lift it onto my desktop.

In the end I went with a 55" TV and VR which beat the slight curvature of the Odyssey anyhow. It did have a lot of other cool features though but I have forgotten about them now.

Sure, prices vary enormously between retailers too.

Hmm, I had forgotten about the weight 🧐 Not sure you could hang one on a drywall! At least not without some very serious preparations!

Have had one for a couple of years now - it sits happily on my desk - it is just the best - lots & lots of real estate - makes the immersion in the sim so real - as for mounting it on a dry wall - as you said would require some serious thought

One of its main selling features is the ability to swivel from landscape to portrait views, so the stand has to be very sturdy which is why it's so heavy. It would likely have a proprietary mounting system which might not work with a wall mounting. I expect the screen by itself would be about as heavy as a regular 55" screen.

yep most of the weight is in the mount - took a friend & myself to get it on the desk - haven't moved it since then - also I have never used it in the vertical - could see no sense in it as from what I gather the resolution is not as good - landscape is the way to go for flying - helps heaps for periferal vision

I love mine, essentially for flight sim.
The only problem is that the brain gets used to everything, including the enormous size of this screen and therefore today I no longer realize how lucky I am to be the happy (and broke!) owner of this monster unless someone reminds me! 😄
This being said, I never use it in "cockpit mode" which is not the best find for those like me who suffer from cervical osteoarthritis

Great David! If I may ask… how close are you sat to the screen? At 3840 pixels wide, at 55” I’m concerned that the resolution may be not that great for me sat at about 26”. Also, do you notice any kind of distortion with the curvature at the sides?

Hello Howard,

I generally sit between 55 cm and 60 cm (21 to 23") from the center of the screen and I never feel eyestrain, although it took a couple of weeks before I really felt comfortable.
Adjusting the brightness to fit your environment is mandatory for the best user experience.

No distortion at all with the curvature, you'll forget it after an hour or two.

I have one. It’s a glorious monitor for the immersion short of VR. G-Sync works great.

CONS

- HDR with windows is not needed as it has its own.

- The base is extremely heavy and you’ll need a reinforced desk.

- It’s not an OLED so your blacks wont be as black. But honestly it doesn’t bother me.

- If you use DSR in Nvidia, this monitor is not compatible.

Great! Thanks for the feedback David. Sounds promising. One thing I forgot to ask… is it a matte or glossy screen?

Sounds good. Cheers. Tell ya wot tho… I’m going round in circles with DLSS, FG, DSR and all the rest of the abbreviations! When you sat DSR is not compatible, is that the same as DLSS super resolution with DLAA turned on in MSFS, because that is really important for me.

My pleasure, Howard.
1/ It's a matte screen fortunately, so we never see ourselves on the sides 😊.
2/ DSR stands for Dynamic Super Resolution, a technology developed by Nvidia that allows you to get 4K quality graphics even on an HD display. So, if your graphics card is capable of running a game in 4K but you have a 1440p monitor, you can use this technology to get better visuals.
This screen being 4K, we don't need it to be DSR compatible.
I am using TAA in MSFS but I can also use DLSS with DLAA or any other setting without problem.

Another very impressive feature is that the sound system is simply fantastic on this screen !!
