January 18, 20251 yr I have a Pimax Crystal Light but for about half the money, the Q3 is great. There is no FG in VR and so a series 4000 vid card is not necessary. This video he did is Q3 on a 3080 (not ti , not super). Predictably he isn't happy with TAA but settles for DLSS Quality. (I also use DLSS Quality on my PCL). The pancake lenses is giving him a sweet spot all across the screen (better than the lenses on the PCL). But he doesn't have the clarity, color, or contrast that comes with the PCL. But for not too much money the Q3 will do very well in MSFS 2024. Framerates and lack of stutters will not be an issue. The Q3 it seems to me, is a good way for anyone to try VR. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.
January 18, 20251 yr The Quest 3 absolutely is a great headset for MSFS. I returned a Crystal Light in favour of the Quest 3 as the CL had too many issues. Ryzen 9800X3D, RTX 5090, 64GB, Win 11. MSFS2020. Moza, MFG, Fulcrum & Virpil controllers. Quest 3 for VR.
January 18, 20251 yr To me the only thing ruined Quest 3 is that it's streaming only. Everything else is just perfect for its price. Pity and that's reason I bought Pimax Crystal Light. In my case, PCL easily beats Q3 in terms of image clarity and and its sweet spot size is very close to Q3's. 9950X3D / 64GB / RTX5090 / Pimax Crystal Light / Win11
January 18, 20251 yr Yup, if you get a good headset, the Crystal Light is definitely the better option for visuals. I could see nice clarity in the very centre and I really liked the colours. The lenses on my headset were pretty poor though, small sweet spot and terrible chromatic aberration. The Quest 3 lenses were far superior. Ryzen 9800X3D, RTX 5090, 64GB, Win 11. MSFS2020. Moza, MFG, Fulcrum & Virpil controllers. Quest 3 for VR.
February 22, 20251 yr How can the Q3 be described as an upgrade from HP Reverb G2 ? I mean it has not better resolution.

I mean it has not better resolution there is a lot more to it than just resolution: HP Reverb G2 uses lightweight, but cheap fresnel lenses, whereas Quest3, Pimax and Pico 4 all use the much bigger and better pancake lenses and hence "virtually" no optical aberration. and they all have bigger sweet spot, and better edge-to-edge clarity. yes, I had them all. 🤣 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_aberration Edited February 23, 20251 yr by turbomax AMD 7800X3D, Windows 11, Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard, 64GB DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB (AMD Expo), RTX 4090, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2 TB PCIe 4.0, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB PCIe 4.0, 4K resolution 50" TV @60Hz, VR: Pimax Crystal Light + HP Reverb G2 @ 90 Hz, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, be quiet 1000W PSU, Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black air cooler. 60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking. very nice.
February 23, 20251 yr Author The Pimax Crystal light however, does not use pancake lenses. They use expensive glass lenses with give much higher PPD for razor-sharp vision than pancake lenses. Pancake lenses are plastic lenses (polycarbonate) cemented together into a pancake. They offer sharpness out to the edges of the screen and the ones in the Q3 were perhaps the best lenses in any popular VR headset. But the clarity inside the wide sweet spot of the PCL is way above the pancake lenses in the Q3. Pimax is all about high PPD. And the screen on the PCL is much better and more expensive than on the Q3. This makes for deep bright colors. The best consumer headset all things considered might be the new Meganex Superlight which does indeed have pancake lenses. And now probably the best lenses of any headset. Their first run is sold out but a combination of headset and wire are still available. They also require one base station (such as the one sold by Steam for the Valve. As for me I continue to love my PCL (I used to have a HP Reverb). 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. February 23, 20251 yr Author The G2 uses fresnel lenses, not pancake. Back before MS Windows flightsims, in the DOS days, rectangular fresnel lense sheets were sometimes used to produce 3D flightsimming. And were all the rage on avsim. No headset was required. The plastic fresnel sheet was attached (scotch tape) to the monitor at the horizontal dividing line between the "cockpit" and the window. Along the line seen here. The cockpit was brought forward in space close to your face. "Collimated" displays . "A fresnel lens provides an immersive effect that cannot be observed with the video. You are drawn into the images as they appear lifelike with depth. This is possible because fresnel lenses focus to infinity fooling your senses into thinking the image is far away. February 23, 20251 yr Totally unrelated to flight sim, but recently I found it's a lot of fun watching Netflix in Q3 to relax. It can only be done on Netflix website, but the video quality is pretty good (1080p?). I plugin my own headphone so the sound becomes decent too. I have a good true 4K projector and full set of of speakers, but this Q3 thing is just so convenient. Glad that I kept the Q3. For MSFS, it's all Pimax Crystal Light. Also, Q3 video passthrough is getting impressively good. The color, exposure, geometry and latency of passthrough video all are almost perfect. This is actually mind blowing at its price point. 9950X3D / 64GB / RTX5090 / Pimax Crystal Light / Win11

February 23, 20251 yr I watched a few movies from the beginning to the end, yeah, it's comfortable enough, no problem at all. The built-in battery though is barely enough for 2 hour videos. With external battery not much problem. The best video quality still is by VirtualDesktop streaming from my flight sim PC, but you can't watch DMR-protected videos like those from Netflix, only Youtube videos.
