One things FS 2020 and FS 2024 do better than any other...

Manual braking !

I haven't been able to find, in any of the many addons I used for years with FSX / P3D / X-Plane / Aerowinx PSX, I honestly no longer recall AS2, FS4 and ATP Rev D, a simulation of pedal braking force / effect as good as in MSFS.

For instance in X-Plane, no matter how I fine tune the curves for the toe brakes, braking during rollout is always excessive, abrupt... Even Aerowinx PSX always had this problem, which probably users with adequate / expensive hardware didn't experience, but in MSFS I can apply "manual braking" when I land my airliners / GA / gliders and get a unique, IMO absolutely true to real, braking effect and efficiency.

Flying gliders since 1980

Flightsimming since 1992

AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

I use BUTTON1 on my CH Flightstick Pro joystick for manual braking in the PMDG 737-600, and it is far too powerful. Maybe I am not setting it up right? It also has a delay of around a second before it takes effect, which makes subtle braking when I am approaching my parking spot a right royal PITA.

Is that a digital button (as opposed to analog)? If so then yes you will go from 0% braking to 100% as soon as it takes effect. I recall similar issues before I got rudder pedals with toe brakes in earlier sims.

I used the same button for manual braking in P3D, and it was much more realistic.

I see, but I only use the button during taxi. Under all other circumstances I use the toe brakes in my pedals 🙂

But yes it is adjustable, I even asked Copilot and the guy knows everything about everything 🤣:

what CFG variable is used to configure brake efficiency when using an analog button for it in MSFS ?

In Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS), you can adjust the brake efficiency by modifying the toe_brakes_scale variable in the systems.cfg file. This variable allows you to fine-tune the braking force applied when using an analog button or axis for the brakes.

To adjust this setting:

  1. Locate the systems.cfg file for the specific aircraft you want to modify.

  2. Open the file in a text editor.

  3. Find the toe_brakes_scale variable.

  4. Adjust the value to your preference (e.g., lowering the value will reduce the braking force).

Treat yourself to a set of pedals Chris. Not only will braking be progressive you'll have rudder control too so you can taxi with your feet leaving your hands free to drink tea!

I can think of one thing and one thing only that XP11 did better.

To me, flying any aircraft without rudder pedals is like eating a spaghetti dinner with your fingers. 😉

This is one of the reasons why I prefer to fly in very calm weather

I applied nose wheel steering to my controller z asis twist plus using rudders to steer

Wait a minute. Are you saying that some people don't eat their spaghetti with their fingers?

To me, I use my twisty joystick instead of rudder pedals. I love eating my spaghetti dinners with chopsticks!

Sometimes WE EAT spaghetti with our fingers, but the problem is that you can't eat spaghetti in the US or UK, because they don't have any idea how to cook them.
