MSFS 2024 SU1 Beta is just sublime. Video

Hi, everyone,

Is it "safe" to install the su1 beta update?

I mean... is there a risk of loosing settings, control bindings and so on?

I'm still fighting with partial settings that fs2024 does not save at all... so, I don't know if it is a good idea o a bad one!

Greetings

From the official forum page;

MS Store PC Users: There is always a risk that you may have to re-install the sim when joining/leaving a flight, so please keep this in mind before participating.

Also a perfect example of why calling the beta a "flight" is absolutely pathetic, you could read that as every time you leave a normal everyday flight it reinstalls the sim. What they actually mean is when joining or leaving the BETA you might have to reinstall the sim. 🙄

Thanks for the enthusiasm.  I'm 53 years old and remember walking 2 miles home from school each day in 7th grade to play MS Flight Sim on an IBM PC Jr.  What we have now was impossible just 10 short y

I expected the worst, but strangely nothing bad happened. Same settings including control assignments. Of course there’s no guarantee nothing will go wrong, but for me it didn’t.

Yes, I wish they would stop using that term. Confusing! 🫤

It’s a standard term in software development- of course in this specific case it IS really confusing if you aren’t familiar with tech - just an unhappy coincidence.

Here's a reddit thread discussing the ground texture improvements:

And a link to a comparison image:

Definitely an improvement, even looking at the runway. I'm curious though - there was not anything that I could see in the release notes about this. Has it been improved server-side? Are they using updated ground textures? Is the LOD higher? Are the textures simply better as the beta servers are not as congested?

Japan - in the beta. Go to 4.30 or 6.50, etc for some ground detail. LoD at 250.

I don't think the beta itself presents many problems. I seem to remember getting out of the beta is where it can all go beef!

IIRC, the chance of that happening is lower if you have a custom install location.

So far so very good in the Beta. Haven’t had any issues that would need a reinstall or leaving the Beta. Fingers crossed.

Same here. There are still WAY too many trees everywhere but it runs very smoothly with nay a stutter at Ultra on my machine. Impressive.

Even at a heavy airport like Frankfurt or Heathrow? If that’s the case I too find that impressive and at the same time very hard to believe…

Some of us are plagued by a Vram bug. Something like a memory leak that will tank frames. SU2 is supposed address this.

I see 16GB used out of my 24GB, so can’t be that…

Did you get the SU1 beta? Or still using the release version?

Beta, but it was the same in the release version… It’s smooth outside of large airports, I think it’s all The objects popping in and out with the terrible LOD that’s causing the stuttering. And the AI that magically appears when you’re 200ft above the runway.

Can't help you with the LOD, but for AI, you know that FSLTL is now working, right? It fixed my AI issues, at least so far. I use BATC when I fly IFR, and FSLTL for one-off flights.
