FSX performance question and GE & UT

Recommended Posts

Hey all,I can't remember if I read this somewhere, but can installing Ground Environment Pro and Ultimate Terrain actually cause FSX to perform better due to the custom textures they use out of the box? I ask this because on my not so up to date rig, I am not content with the performance as much as I have with FS9, but would love to use FSX more if I could only get it to run a bit smoother. The default AC run pretty good, but, for example I just purchased Nemeth's EC135 for FSX and it does not do too well. I still plan on building a more robust rig, but until then, any suggestions? I am running FSX plus SP1 and 2 installed. Thanks :)

It's unlikely that Ultimate Terrain could cause FSX to perform better, since it adds much to the scene for FSX to render (like more roads, rivers, bridges, vehicles [sort of], etc.)Ground Environment X, on the other hand, replaces default ground textures, but doesn't add anything more for FSX to render. The improved textures allowed me to run with a lower scenery complexity setting but still get a believeable view. I thus, "gained" about a 25% FPS improvement.Heartily recommend GEX for that reason alone.Cheers,
