How I lost FG in DLSS 4 and then found it again

Featured Replies

Saturday evening I was so happy with DLSS 4 and the high frame rate and great scenery.  Sunday morning still found great scenery but the in game Frame Gen option/row in Graphics settings had vanished.  I tried to verify that all the settings in nVidia Profile Inspector were as needed.

But - NO:  enable DLSS RR overide and SR overide were set to 0 rather than the required 1. And, override DLSS RR was set to 0 rather than ...FF as needed.

That seemed odd because I had verified the correct values before the last good sim session.  So, I stopped the sim and then put the correct values back in place, using Profile Inspector,  but when I checked the In Game options there was no frame gen available.

I finally figured out that the nVidia App (11.0.2.312) was changing the three values from x0x00FFFFFF to x0x000000 when I pressed START in the game.   I kept Profile Inspector open while the game loaded and used the PI Refresh option to check the status of the three settings.  They changed from the correct value to 0 the instant I hit START in the Game.

The nVidia app setting for DLSS Override FG was set to Latest and could not be changed.   I uninstalled the nVidia App and the next time I started the sim - the Frame Gen option was available and I am now happy...again.

I love tinkering with computers, hardware and software, and have been doing so since 1969.  But, this DLSS 4 experience has been one of the more frustrating exercises I have engaged in.

Hi, TacomaSailor,

I put the “correct values”, but frame generation is missing in the menu.

I can’t figure out what’s happening…

Is the nVidia App present on your system?  I had to completely UNINSTALL it to ensure the app did not change the values from what I set in Profile Inspector.

For me - the BIG question is:

Why did the nVidia App DLSS Override FG option line change from being greyed out Saturday evening when FG was working OK for me in DLSS V4 to Sunday morning when the nVidia option line had changed to Use 3D setting?

I did not update or change the nVidia App but I am sure that on Saturday evening the Override FG option was not available in my version of the app.

I ignored the nvidia app apart from installing the new driver. It is still installed and everything is fine.

However, I only enabled the DLSS SR and DLSS RR overrides.

If I enable the DLSS FG override in Profile Inspector, the FG option disappears from the sim (2024).

I have a 3080 so I have to use the FG mod.

Funny enough I have the exact opposite experience: I put «newest» preset in the NV app and it then also showed the ...FF selection in NV inspector. And it stayed like this, no matter if I started the game or not. So no issues at all with the NV app on my side... are you guys sure you deactivated the «auto» optimizer inside NV app?

now In Game Frame Gen option/row is gone again!^*))__)

I flew a session with good frame gen, great scenery, and FPS > 65 using Frame Gen.  I shut the sim down for lunch.  Came back an hour later and NO Frame Gen option despite everything saying it is working.

I have verified that the .dll files are the correct version, the profile inspector lines are as they should be, even the user.cfg file is set properly for Frame Gen.   The In Game screen shows Preset K, DLSSv3, driver 310.2.1 but the sim does not show an FG option.

I start the Sim and watch the Profile Inspector options - they do not change even once flying.  EVERYTHING seems to say the Frame Gen is enabled - but I find NO frame gen in the In Game/Graphics options.

What the heck is going on?

Changed the Inspector entry Enable DLSS-FG override from 1 to 0 and now all is good and I consistently find Frame Gen working as it should.

Hi, TacomaSailor!

I changed the DLSS FG override in Profile Inspector to 0 and it worked!

Now I have Frame Gen active!

No need to uninstall NVIDIA APP.

Thank you!

That's what @Dazzlercee23 said above:

I'm starting to feel more like in the "good" old times of FSX and P3D tweaking 🤣 where I ended up trying to optimize, fix and most of the time uninstalling sims, than flying the aircraft 🙂

I believe it's stable here in my install with a 3060Ti, but I never had the FG option available in game anyway. All I have is the option to set Antialiasing to DLAA, and that's what I am using anyway...

~Honestly I haven't yet really understood all this stuff of FG DL and other acronyms in MSFS 🙂

What's going on is...you love tinkering with computers!  Enjoy!

When you're ready to FLY and stop tinkering, just drop the files into the folder where they belong and be done with it.  I'm using DLSS4 daily with no need to do anything...but I canned the NV App.  KISS

If is seems like too much to have to do this whenever there is an MSFS update, feel free to use this batch script.  I have it setup in TM to run whenever I logon to Win 11.

@echo off
set source=C:\Users\noelp\Downloads
set "destination=C:\XboxGames\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Content"

echo Copying files...
copy "%source%\nvngx_dlss_310.1" "%destination%"
copy "%source%\nvngx_dlssg_310.2" "%destination%"

echo Copy complete!

I really thought that is what I said and was doing... Flying the Aerobatic 152 out of KSEE in the bright San Diego sunshine. DLSS4 was working perfectly and Frame Gen was working perfectly.  Shut the sim down - went to lunch and when I restarted the sim Frame Gen was gone.

Are you saying that I should just ignore the loss of Frame Gen?

But... you are correct - I do love tinkering with the system and sim.  However, I do Free Flight at least two hours a day - no matter what is going right or wrong with the system and sim.
