Can't decide whether I should upgrade to MSFS 2024 or not?

I just looked at the Steam statistics, as of today, twice as many people are still flying with MS 2020 versus 2024.

So what...? Does that make MSFS2020 better? I couldn't care less if the entire world was using MSFS2020 and I was the only one flying MSFS2024. If I was forced to go back to MSFS2020 I'd probably stop simming altogether.

  • Seriously.... $60 is keeping you from upgrading your sim?  🫢  How much did you pay for your last video card upgrade?

  • Ill be waiting another 6 months.

  • Still using MSFS 2020 and loving it. Not any plans to upgrade to 2024. My sim works perfectly and last I purchased Rex Atmos. Loving how beautiful my sim looks.. Besides I don´t know, how my RTX 2060

Just shows which simmers like better, that's all. Being in the minority isn't so bad, I guess.

I too am happy with 2020 -- it has been a great sim, far beyond anything I ever expected to see in flight simulation in my lifetime. Furthermore, 2024 does still have some issues, as everyone is aware who uses it. But guess what? While I still have 2020, I now fly almost exclusively in 2024 -- I am hooked. The reason is simple: it represents a major advance in the way real-life scenery is depicted, so much so that the feeling of immersion is so improved compared to 2020 that it is almost scary. Everything now looks more real -- cities, rural areas, national parks, seashores, mountains, distant views or close-up, cliffsides or ground details -- doesn't matter. Words fail. That's all I can say.

Agreed... couple the visual immersion with the equally if not more important advancements in flight dynamics, ground physics, lighting, avionics, systems, etc, and throw in aviation activities and career mode, etc etc.. well then you have a flight sim where one aspect doesn't have to be compromised on in order to get the best of another (i.e. flight realism vs visual fidelity, or X vs Y). And a sim that's accessible enough where you can use it the way you please.. from ultra casual to ultra serious simming 🙂 2020 is indeed a great sim, but 2024 is the future by far.

To the OP, I would still advise to start with keeping 2020 around if at all possible and slowly working your way into 2024. There might be specific 3rd party aircraft (or other addons) important to you that only function in 2020 currently. Given the minimal disk space requirements of 2024 no real advantage to get rid of 2020 at the moment. My flying time is around 90+% 2024 now and the rest with 2020... but it truly is hard for me each time to go back to 2020 after experiencing 2024 🙂

Thats not an accurate comaparison. 1 sim has been out for 4 years and the other for 4 months. Not everybody moves over on day one. There are many still using other sims is theat becasuse like you they dislike 2024 or maybe they can't afford to move or just prefer to stick with what they have....all are good sims but times move on as do some people.

Yeah, I see $37.49 is now out of stock. It was in stock a couple days ago when I checked for somebody else... They only have a certain number

Unfortunately, it isn't day one, it is coming up on three months, and still counting, and the 2024 user trend is downward.

If you only care what the scenery looks like and only fly low and slow in trainer in free flight ac

Hmm.. 2024 has come a bit further than that IMHO..

How quickly the axe falls. I remember lots of people thoroughly enjoying flight simulation in P3D, and then as soon as MSFS 2020 appeared, P3D was instantly transformed into a rotting pile of garbage 🤷‍♂️

Well fortunately we all have choices because for the first few months of release a lot of us wouldn't be able to sim if we were forced to give up 2020...

Yes, people would give up simming if they had to go back to 2020...  I mean the horror, can you imagine if you had to use the same sim as 4 months ago that is still getting updates, add-ons are still being released for and is still very much in an active development and support cycle!!!

Ah, this was a good Friday afternoon laugh LOL

Yes, get MSFS 2024, it's that much better than MSFS 2020, especially the graphics at ground level.  Since you use MSFS 2020 a lot, look at this comparison of MSFS 2024 vs real life photos that this person composed: https://www.reddit.com/r/MicrosoftFlightSim/comments/1h3igen/places_ive_been_over_the_years_revisited_in/

Without custom scenery, MSFS 2020 is incapable of generating the graphics that you see in that Reddit post.  So from the ground level and outside cities, MSFS 2024 graphics are a huge revolution over MSFS 2020 graphics.

As for which version to get if you have the Deluxe version of MSFS 2020, you can get the Standard Version of MSFS 2024, because your Deluxe planes in MSFS 2020 should carry over to MSFS 2024. I  bought the Premium Deluxe version of MSFS 2020 but I bought the Standard Version of MSFS 2024. All my Premium Deluxe planes from MSFS 2020 carried over to MSFS 2024, including the 787 which was the most important plane to me from the Premium Deluxe version.

And the improvements in lighting, water physics, flight dynamics, ground physics, etc, it's simply better than MSFS 2020 in so many areas. Plus, I was getting a little annoyed with the trees, grass, and vegetation in MSFS 2020 after 4 years because it looked off compared to real life (but of course, MSFS 2020 trees, grass, and vegetation is so much better than the competition, lol).  When I use MSFS 2024 now, I am amazed by the trees, grass, and vegetation, and it brings back the enjoyment of exploring the world again.  After using MSFS 2024, I can't go back to MSFS 2020 now, it's too difficult.

So for $60 USD, MSFS 2024 was a great deal.  Plus, MSFS 2024 is quite good now on SU1 Beta.  It will get better in SU2, but for a lot of people, SU1 Beta has been a huge game changer for MSFS 2024.

I bought and own the Windows store version of MSFS 2020 Deluxe Premium edition, so if I decide to get the steam version of MSFS 2024 Standard, will my stuff carry over? Or do both versions of MSFS have to be bought from the same store in order to do so?

I bought MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 from the Microsoft store. So I am not exactly sure what happens if you change to Steam to purchase MSFS 2024. You may want to ask others about this.

Again you try to spin to your negative narative. the point is one sim have been running for 4 years the other for 3 months. the Day one refers to when people choose to switch over. we all get it your not happy with it. you mentioned it once or twice. what do oyuo hope to gain by constantly being so negative? reduce sales? I doubt your opinion like mine counts for that much, but you keep chipping away if it makes you happy sad though that is.

How many fly 2020 compared to 2024? Video starts where Jorg gives the answer:

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

I had to upgrade (happily) because my 500gb m.2 was full.  Now I have 350gb free with a 50gb cache.

I know storage is cheap but I don't do hardware anymore. 😙
