February 10, 20251 yr When you say "much improved", what do you mean? I can imagine that the trees look better, but what about the buildings? I think that the autogen buildings in MSFS 2020 generally look good, and the density is excellent. However, I would hope that improvements have been made in the rendering of circular oil tanks, so that they look like oil tanks, and not curved apartment blocks! Funny you should mention that... and yes, I believe oil tanks are more likely to show as oil tanks now. In all cases.. no.. Some are still being misidentified (same as 2020).. see below: But we were talking about night lighting.. 🫢 Edited February 10, 20251 yr by Bert Pieke Bert

PG in general is much worse, add 2020 glitches with giant tree jungles in semi desert climates. Buildings in many places are very dark, they look burnt and there are still melted buildings.
February 10, 20251 yr Much improved. Buildings are vastly crisper and sharper (try Toronto) and generally the resolution is much improved. Some people claim it’s worse so maybe your internet connection or something else can impact it - so really, you have to try it for yourself to see. I have only seen uniformly excellent improvements over 2020 9800X3d, 4090, 64 GB DDR5 6000 RAM, 4 TB NVME (2x2), 4K Ultra + Framegen

I know several people who have turned off PG because of this. And no its most certainly nothing to do with my internet connection. Its fast and beyond the recommendations of MSFS 2024. My internet is 900+ mbps download and average 170 mbps for upload. That barely fluctuates throughout the day and nowhere near or low enough below 700 at peak times even. Again, not me. Its Asobo or something else. Piett has their PG turned off and I tried it. It doesn't look as good as PG when PG is working well. But its consistently mediocre if I am allowed to say that hahaha. Have to admit: when the PG works for me in 2024 its a lot better than 2020 when it was at its best as well. February 11, 20251 yr It has nothing to do with the connection, it is a question of the quality of the data and the interpretation made by the AI. It still has obvious errors such as the construction of small buildings in greenhouses and other objects, the colors of the buildings, etc. The worst of all are still the trees and that is where they have to keep working, apart from the inherited problem of trees with a totally disproportionate size the algorithm continues to confuse shrubs and low bushes with trees, which generates trees where there should not be.

It does look good. But my problem is not with the stuff close to the aircraft, it's with the massive sepia blobs of stuff further away. if they can't be at least a bit defined, we should have the option to get rid of them somehow. I'm amazed there isn't a mod or something out there that does this. Go fly in the Alps at night and see all the valleys glowing yellow, it's really an immersion killer.

In 2020 unless the server starts lagging I don't get them anymore except in the extreme distance... It's really gotten much better on my end but yes, if the server lags the whole ground can turn to yellow blobs... Will try to find some better shots over the Alps. Over the Alps Kinds sucks it was a cloudy night LOL Clear skies approaching the Alps. I see what you are talking about WAY in the distance but in R/L I'm not sure what you would see from over 80 miles away which is where they are... Another example, Somewhere over Europe And the worst example of them on my system, approaching Liverpool, still 20 miles off the coast and you can see the cities in the center of England are not in focus... Again, not sure what you would see on a clear night with near unlimited vis and the naked eye... It's acceptable to me though Great example of what I typically see looking down on Philadelphia from FL240 doing 410 kts and viewing all the way to the Horizon.... Looks pretty darn good to me. It's essentially clear until the atmosphere prevents you seeing any further... Edited February 13, 20251 yr by psolk Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk

At some point they fixed the sepia mask being too close and tied it more to the terrain LOD. For some reason these illumination blobs are way too close in 2024....not sure if it was on purpose for performance reasons or a regression that they are not acknowledging. I like how they use it and I don't think it needs to go away...it just needs to be much further out in the distance (2024) as it is pretty realistic in that case..... I have just done one of the exams in career mode, they had me at Burbank. The airport was surrounded by what were supposed to be trees. They were just blobs of awful PG and spiked trees and blobby buildings. People say PG is designed for above 1000 foot or so, so what about airports such as Burbank that are located in the epicentre of PG?! Cant they set an exclude or something? It looks horrendous to be honest. Edited February 13, 20251 yr by Ianrivaldosmith
