Why MSFS 2024 has the best ground physics for a flight sim

Featured Replies

So I am very impressed with the new ground physics in MSFS 2024.  FYI, I am not a real life pilot, but I do drive a car in real life.  As you may know, MSFS 2024 uses AI to place procedurally generated rocks across the entire world.  You may be thinking, so what?  Well, the rocks that are placed procedurally around the entire world, can affect the plane if it rolls over the rock.  From my testing, the rock has to be a certain size, before it impacts the plane's tires.  If the rock is too small, it doesn't seem to have an impact.  But if the rock meets a certain minimum size, it will impact the plane's tires as the plane rolls over the rock:

Now MSFS 2024 also handles the events of slopes, and it also handles iced/slippery terrain as well.  But I am extremely impresses at how all the procedurally generated rocks across the world can affect the plane's balance if it rolls over it.

What this technology in MSFS 2024 has amounted to is that when you land in a random area when you go bush flying, you have to be careful of where you land.  And if you are about to roll over a huge rock/boulder as you land a bush plane, you may want to avoid it, as the video above shows, or your plane may even flip over.  Ergo, MSFS 2024 is the most realistic flight simulator for bush flying, and there is no better flight simulator out there if you are bush flying or landing on random non-paved airstrips.

Overall, this bumpy and rocky terrain world wide in MSFS 2024, which interacts with the plane as the video above shows, puts MSFS 2024 ground physics in a league of its own.  From my understanding, the other flight simulators do not place procedurally generated rocks & boulders around the world, that can interact and affect the plane's tires as it rolls over it.

I hope in future versions of MSFS 2024, or perhaps in MSFS 2028, the MSFS team can fine tune and lower the size at which small objects, rocks, etc, will affect the plane as it rolls over it.

Indeed, but totally irrelevant if you fly airliners ...  I had hoped MS to pay more attention to things that really matter for a Flight Sim.

Isn't bush flying and taking off from unpaved runways a part of flight sim though?

GA counts just as much as Airliners.

Funniest comment in a long time!

The rocks and displacement on the ground in MSFS are great.

One thing that is bad though compared to other sims that takes away from the experience however: The suspension physics. The suspension physics are horrible in 2024. Asobo really needs to copy what ever Xplane does for their suspension physics. Badly lol.

If airliners was all I could fly in a flight sim, I would not be flight simming because to me it’s quite boring. Program your flying computer, turn on autopilot and then click accelerate sim rate. Yawn…Much more fun to fly bush planes, helicopters or GA and take in the scenery. My point is it’s very myopic to think that airliners is the only thing that really matters in flight simming. MS knows their diverse customer base and tries to accommodate many aviation interests. 2024 definitely was a bigger upgrade for non-airliners. If I only flew airliners, I would stick with 2020.

Maybe we could request a MARKETING /PROMO sub-forum for 2024 on avsim now? Separate from objective discussion threads?

There is no such thing as an objective discussion thread on Avsim

Not quite true. Any new post that offers both praise AND criticism of any sim is as close to objective as we will get. New posts that show ONLY praise for one or many parts of the sim are almost certainly subjective and should be parked in a separate sales forum imo 🤔😏😎

If it was for you to decide what really matters in a flight sim i'm afraid we would only be flying airliners.

Not quite true. 99% of posts that offer both praise and criticism are full of hidden agendas and preconceived ideas and are about as far from objective as you can get.

Way from the truth now! I can see that you are arguing for the sake of it now (so you definitely belong here on Avsim lol). Whilst the above premise is true any study of statistics/standard deviation/probability would guide you to a more realistic figure of maybe 15%.

Look at ANY sales brochure ever in the history of TIME and you will see only praise. If there is criticism then there also can be discussion.

And you have seen a post you dislike or disagree with here and immediate tried to condemn it as just a sales pitch. You also definitely belong here 😉
