Turning on Autopilot Altitude via keyboard

Recommended Posts

While messing about recently, I tried the keystroke Ctrl-Z to turn on the preset altitude hold, and immediately crashed towards old Mother Earth. On looking at the Altitude window, I discovered that using this keystroke reset the altitude to an apparently random lower figure. I thought this might be a peculiarity of the default Beechcraft Baron which I was using, so experimented with the A321 and B737, with exactly the same result. Has anyone else noticed this peculiarity, and is there any cure?jaje

Not a "random number" at all. What altitude was set in the altitude preselector?

You should set the altitude preset to the proper altitude on the autopilot prior to activating the altitude hold mode.

>4000 feet in Beechcraft, 10000 in 737. Tell me more!Since I rarely use the keyboard controls, I wasn't entirely certain but...There are two "altitude hold" functions in FS:1. altitude hold (current)2. altitude hold (preselected)Unfortunately, Ctrl-Z is assigned to #1, so it is behaving as assigned. Anytime the autopilot is ON and one hits Ctrl-Z, the aircraft should capture and hold the current altitude. There is no keyboard assignment for #2, which is very strange since there is a keyboard control to SET the altitude preselector! Ctrl-Shift-Z, followed by the -/= keys will decrease/increase the altitude preselector...Registered owners of FSUIPC however can assign Ctrl-Z (or any other key combo) to the FS command "AP Panel Altitude Hold" which is what will trigger the preselected altitude hold function.
